This Group Of Welsh Friends Travelled To The U.S. To Try American Restaurant Chains

A friend group from Wales is gaining popularity on TikTok for vlogging and reviewing their experiences eating at American chains. The group, who refer to themselves as the Welsh 5, has been visiting staple American restaurants such as Chili’s and IHOP. Here is all you need to know about the friends, their journey, and, most importantly, their thoughts and opinions about American food.

Who are the Welsh 5?

The friend group consists of Ieuan (@ieuanjoness), Kane (@kanehinge), Charly Anne (@charlyannec), Lea (@leacharlottexx), and Cory (@corysworldd). While they are all friends with each other, Ieuan and Kane are best friends, while Cory and Lea are engaged to each other. The trip’s purpose is to, of course, see America, but also to try some of the chains they have seen on their FYP. The group is currently in Orlando, Florida as part of their two-week trip. They are calling this trip Season 2, as they previously visited New York back in December where they also tried chains such as Raising Cane’s, Taco Bell, and McDonald’s. In the four days since arriving, they have tried several restaurants together as a group.

On their first night in America, the group decided to get Wingstop with the American menu having one feature that the U.K. does not offer — cajun fried corn. The corn was the scene stealer of the video, with both Ieuan and Kane called it “unreal,” and Charly Anne said it was “stunning.” Cory thought that the seasoned French fries were “mid” while Lea loved them. The meal was described by Lea as a 10 out of 10, and Ieuan claimed American Wingstop was better than the U.K. counterpart.

Chili’s has been trending on TikTok for months now because of the now infamous triple dipper. It can probably be said that Gen Z single handedly revived that chain with the mozz sticks alone. So it’s no surprise that the Welsh 5 were dying to try the restaurant. The initial reactions were excitement — Cory exclaimed he was “going to pass out.” To bring it back to the viral appetizer, all of the Welsh 5 got a triple dipper. The group was most excited about the mozzarella sticks (understandable). Charly Anne called her meal “actual hev” (heaven). Lea stated that it was “the best meal they’ve had so far.” Kane said it was “the best food to ever touch his lips.” Ieuan gave it a “unreal” (again). While Cory gave it a 10 out of 10 with an “immaculate vibe.”

Where else have they gone?

The group also has also visited other restaurants in smaller groups. Chains covered by the members so far include Checkers, which seemed to be pretty mid to them, Panera, where the soup was well enjoyed, Shake Shack, which was all around enjoyed, IHOP, which the group described it as “hev,” and Panda Express, which was claimed to be better than British Chinese food. Ieuan, Kane, and Charly Anne went to Chipotle, where Ieuan said his burrito bowl (with Wingstop ranch) was yet again “unreal.” When Lea and Cory went to Wendy’s, Lea said that her grilled chicken wrap was “vile,” while Cory said his cheeseburger, fries, and potato was “stunning.”

Here’s to hoping the Welsh 5 enjoy the rest of their trip.
