What better way to honor the fact that the University of Michigan football team has been absolutely grilling the competition than with a literal grill? Weber recently released its new line of custom collegiate grills and the University of Michigan (obviously) snagged a spot in the lineup. The leaders and the best should only grill using the best, and thankfully, Weber isn’t just providing a top-notch grill, but they’re encasing their usual grilling greatness in a maize and blue shell.
Last weekend, the Michigan Wolverines beat the Wisconsin Badgers 14-7, but it wasn’t just the Badgers that got smoked. In honor of the weekend, Weber grill expert, Kelsey Heidkamp, stopped by the University of Michigan to smoke up some patties on the new Q 1200 College Edition gas grill.
Heidkamp describes the Q University series as being “loaded with all of the high-quality materials Weber has in their larger grills, like the Genesis, but in a smaller, compact, portable grill.” (Much like the mini burgers, pictured below, that Heidkamp whipped up last weekend). They’re loaded with the same high-quality materials found in monster burgers, but they’re in mini form — a perfect metaphor for the Q 1200.
How is this grill different?
Heidkamp notes that one of the best things about the grill (besides its beautiful exterior and extreme convenience in its portability), is its cast iron cooking grate. She says, “The cast iron grate on this grill retains heat extremely well, allowing it to perform at that next level.” With a football team that’s next level, it’s only fitting that the grill honoring the University of Michigan lives up to those same standards.
“It’s a step up from your average portable grill,” she notes. “There’s more material, it performs better, and it’s going to give you awesome results.” In a culture where sports and grilling go hand in hand, Weber has definitely found a great spot to capitalize on (college football). Like sports, grilling brings people together, and in a place as spirited as the University of Michigan, what better way to show of your school spirit than with a grill that also bleeds maize and blue?
You can purchase the Weber Q 1200 gas grill, University of Michigan edition for $299 online or at the M Den. Get ’em while their hot (at roughly 450 degrees Fahrenheit for most meats), and go blue, go burgers.
