When it comes to food, young people rarely take sodium levels into consideration especially when they eat at restaurants. The American Heart Association recommends limiting your sodium intake to 2,300 milligrams per day. Your sodium intake affects your blood pressure and heart health. In order to live a healthy lifestyle, Americans should be eating a lot less sodium than they currently do. The average American eats more than 3,400 milligrams of sodium a day. That's WAY over the recommended amount. Everyone loves Chipotle, but have you ever stopped to think how much sodium is really in that burrito bowl? Probably not. So we broke down the sodium levels in all of Chipotle's meats.

6. Chicken

When it comes to nutritional value, chicken is always the safest and healthiest bet. One serving of chicken at Chipotle only has 310 milligrams of sodium.

5. Steak

Thank the heavens the steak doesn't have the highest sodium content. Whenever I go to chipotle, I always get the steak. While it does have a higher amount than the chicken, it's not that bad. One serving of steak at Chipotle has 330 milligrams of sodium, only 20 more milligrams than the chicken.

4. Carnitas

The sodium levels are getting a bit higher now. The shredded carnitas have a significantly higher amount of sodium compared to the chicken and steak. One serving of carnitas has 450 milligrams of sodium.

3. Barbacoa

The slow braised barbacoa has a significantly higher amount of sodium content than its predecessor. One serving of barbacoa has 530 milligrams of sodium.

2. Sofritas

While the sofritas are tofu and not actual meat, they are still a protein option at Chipotle so it's on the list. You would think that tofu has way less sodium than actual meat, you thought wrong. One serving of sofritas has 555 milligrams of sodium.

1. Chorizo

The winner of the highest sodium content at Chipotle is it's brand new option: Chorizo. Totaling at a whopping 810 milligrams of sodium per serving. Add all of the other components to your bowl, burrito, or tacos and that's a hell of a lot of sodium for just one meal.
