We Asked College Students How They Satisfy The Munchies In The Dining Hall

4/20 is quickly approaching, and so are those post-smoke session cravings. The munchies are a common after-effect of THC usage. But if you find that those McDonald’s McNuggets are too far of a walk away, don’t worry. Your dining hall most definitely has your cravings covered.

With an endless variety of options, which dining hall meal is best fit to cure your munchies? Choice paralysis is real in moments like these, that’s why I asked six college students who are 21 and older the same question. Here’s what they said.

What foods in the dining hall are best to eat when you have the munchies?

E: I’d head straight to the pizza station. Pepperoni, cheese, pineapple, I don’t care, give it to me. And french fries are definitely my go-to. I usually end up ordering two full plates. With some honey mustard — so good. These are always such fast and reliable options. The last thing I want after I smoke is to wait for my food.

D: Honestly, I’m grabbing a sandwich. Not just any sandwich though. I’d get my particular order of a turkey and cheese on a roll with red onion, lettuce, and extra mayo. My favorite foods always taste better when I’m high, and this sandwich order is no different.

M: When I’m having peak munchies, it’s always a bacon cheese burger and root beer that saves me. Even if the dining hall doesn’t offer bacon that night, I’ll sneak over to the salad section and grab some bacon bites. By the time I’m done my burger is usually more bacon than anything else. But hey, who cares. The burger and rootbeer combo is the perfect blend of sweet and savory, and I’ll be back for it on 4/20.

Those are great classic meals to get you started. But what about the combinations you never would’ve thought of?

G: Okay, what I do — or don’t do depending on who’s asking — is grab a gluten-free brownie to start. Then, I assemble the rest of my ingredients: a banana, a cup of peanut butter, and a mug. I put all of the ingredients into the mug and mash them together with my utensil of choice. Pop that in the microwave for 10 to 15 seconds and enjoy. You seriously have to try it.

I: I’m going straight for the grilled buffalo chicken mac and cheese. It quite literally melts in your mouth, which is perfect when you’ve had a little too much fun on a holiday like 4/20. I’d also grab a celsius on the side. I know what you’re thinking — caffeine after you’ve smoked? But I’m chronically tired and it really balances out the sleepy effects that THC brings.

E: Lucky charms for sure. I get one bowl of lucky charms and pick out the marshmallows and another bowl full of vanilla ice cream. I mix the marshmallows with the ice cream and boom, a wonderful treat. With the remaining cereal, I pour chocolate milk in the bowl and have that on the side. Definitely very dairy-forward, so if you’re lactose intolerant you might want to proceed with caution.

S: I’m “cheesemaxxing” one hundred percent. And yes — I’m coining that phrase. First I get a classic grilled cheese and a side of mozzarella sticks. But it doesn’t stop there. I put the mozzarella sticks into the grilled cheese and bite down like I’m filming a mukbang. Something about the dining hall cheese really does it for me. This is a must-have on 4/20.

The dining hall’s options are endless, which makes it the perfect place to satisfy your munchies. No matter how you celebrate 4/20, be sure to fuel up and make the most of your meal plan while doing so.
