Over the next three decades, we could be looking at about a 40 percent drop in avocado production due to the drought in California.

What does this mean exactly? Well, for Chipotle, which uses 35 million pounds of avocados each year for its guacamole, it may mean its guacamole will have to go on a hiatus. Chipotle reported that, if prices increase dramatically, the restaurant would rather wait until prices fall rather than make the cost increase for consumers.

But don’t worry! There are some guacamole alternatives. Although it may be challenging to replace avocado’s distinct nutty flavor, using asparagus or broccoli may do the trick.
