Hey Violets! Are you looking for something new and exciting to try out? Do you want to keep expanding your love for food? If so, then you’ve come to the right place and it’s time for you to join the Spooniverse! Spoon University is a food community and publication that helps college students find exposure to all things food. As someone who stumbled upon Spoon looking for a way to share my passion for food and get involved at NYU, I’m giving you the top reasons you should join too!
1. You're in New York City!
NYU’s Washington Square Campus is situated in the heart of Greenwich Village, so you won’t have to look far for good food (but you already know that). Even better, students living on campus get to dorm in neighborhoods that are home to various types of cuisines just outside of their front doors. Little Italy is a block away from Broome Street, talk about immersion! And don’t forget the new food hall opening up at Zero Irving for those in and around Union Square. The food scene in NYC is limitless, so there’s always something new to experience.
2. Find Community & Indulge in the Foodie Scene Together
Let’s face it, finding your niche or your calling at NYU can sometimes seem daunting or impossible, but food can help build that community for you. Joining Spoon would mean taking on the city and indulging in good food together. At Spoon, you’ll collaborate with others to help put out engaging and exciting content for your fellow NYUers and potentially make some close friends during the process.
3. Put Something On Your Resume
Not only will you eat good food, find others with shared interests, and have lots of fun, but you’ll also be able to gain some skills to take with you after you leave Spoon. Members have the opportunity to dabble in photography, marketing, writing, and flex their hands at leadership opportunities, creating content, and managing social media. It’s always great to get hands-on experience and apply what you’ve been learning in those Stern & MCC classes. Even better, Spoon helps members create meaningful content, giving them the platform and freedom to discuss more specific food related topics. If you’re really passionate about food influencers, nutritional recipes and sustainability, or simply want to talk about your love for pineapple on pizza, then there’s a place for you here at Spoon to express that.
4. Lots of Fun
And just like any other club, Spoon is fun! It can be that piece of chill outside of classes when you want to channel a little of your energy towards something else. And when was exploring the city’s food scene ever not fun? Exactly.
Of course, joining Spoon at NYU can mean more opportunities than what I’ve listed, but these are definitely the highlights. Applications are open and hopefully you’ll consider making Spoon University a part of your experience at NYU.
