It’s that time of year again! The holiday season is approaching fast! Everyone knows the best part of the meal is the dessert. Don’t worry, I have done the liberty of ranking the classic holiday desserts for you so you can indulge in only the best.
10. Fruitcake
Starting from the bottom…fruitcake. This classic holiday dessert has been around for ages. We all know that family member who is the only one to take a piece of this dessert. This candied fruit masterpiece is an acquired taste and would not be the first thing I would choose at the holiday dessert table.
9. Sugar Cookie
Another classic dessert…the sugar cookie. These simple cookies are the perfect canvas for any holiday design. You can always count on a sugar cookie for being a tasty dessert. However, if you are looking for something more interesting on your holiday dessert plate, then sugar cookies are not for you.
8. Gingerbread
It’s a holiday tradition to make a gingerbread house with little gingerbread men. But eating them? Who does that? Well, I recommend you try gingerbread cookies sometime. If you’re not the baking type, take a trip to the store and pick up this adorable and yummy gingerbread family cookie set. Also, gingerbread flavor has migrated to other holiday desserts such as cake, bars, and ice cream so you can enjoy the classic holiday flavor in more than just a cookie.
7. Pudding
I know I know, it’s not your classic holiday dessert (yet). The possibilities with pudding are seemingly endless. Trifles are a big holiday staple on many families dessert tables. They layer up chocolate and vanilla pudding with crushed peppermint to add a holiday twist. Pudding is also not something that you can have every day, so why not indulge during the holidays!
6. Yule Log Cake
A Yule log, traditionally known as a Buche de Noel, is a creamy chocolate cake filled with some type of buttercream or other icing and then rolled into a “log” form. This traditional holiday dessert is perfect for anyone looking for a classic go-to that will always satisfy a sweet tooth.
5. Chocolate Truffles
Coming in at number 5…chocolate truffles. There are endless possibilities when it comes to making a chocolate truffle. Truffles can be covered in nuts, candy, cookies, you name it there’s a truffle with it. What makes truffles so enjoyable (and dangerous for your diet) is that they are poppable. You can keep eating them without realizing how many you’ve had. Truffles are the perfect special treat for the holidays.
4. Cheesecake
Everyone loves a good cheesecake. This is a staple on the holiday dessert table. Top it with some fresh berries and some homemade whipped cream…life complete. Don’t underestimate the cheesecake.
3. Peppermint Bark
This unassuming dessert is a mashup of everyone’s favorite thing (chocolate) and a candy that screams “holidays” (peppermint). Peppermint bark is perfect for snacking throughout the busy holiday season; not only for after the big holiday meal. The crisp and cool feeling you get in your mouth after eating a piece of bark is like no other. This dessert is also incredibly easy to make. Check out this 3-Ingredient recipe.
2. Apple Pie
“Apple pie is a Thanksgiving dessert” -everyone. Okay, but hear me out. Apple pie is the most traditional dessert out there. Who doesn’t love a nice warm slice of apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream melting over the top? Your mouth is watering now, isn’t it? See! Apple pie! This holiday dessert is one that will never disappoint.
1. Pecan Pie
Yes, pecan pie is number 1. This pie combines the creaminess of a cheesecake with the multileveled sweetness of the crispy pecans and filling below. The flaky crust just adds to the amazing creation that is pecan pie. Warmed with ice cream on top…who can resist? If you want to try a less traditional pecan pie, this buttermilk pecan pie is to die for.
Be sure to make the most out of the holiday desserts because they only come around once a year! Enjoy the many choices that can be found on the dessert table!
