The convenience of traveling on airlines makes transportation via sky super desirable. However, the cost of traveling on a plane makes it not so much (hello, broke college student here).

Different airlines offer different amenities, but let’s cut to the chase on what’s really important – free food. As college students, we love all the free food we can get. Free food is great on campus, but really great when traveling.

There’s nothing more exciting than when the nice little flight attendant offers you free food. However, sometimes they don’t. Of course, you can buy food, but who really wants to do that?

In order for you to avoid the despair of being starving on your next flight, I’ve listed the most common airlines with the best free food.

#SpoonTip: Based on free food served in the cheap economy seating only.

7. Virgin America

Sure, Virgin American may be super fancy and offer quite the flight experience, however, they offer no free food. Plus, the snacks that you can buy are pretty pricey ($3-5). No, thank you.

You’re better off bringing a Cliff bar or something.

6. Frontier

Don’t let the cute animals on the back of the planes fool you, you get nada on this aircraft. Unlike Virgin, snack options are available in more affordable, package deals. Still, be prepared to pack your own snacks while on this airline.

5. Spirit

airlines

Spirit may be the cheapest, but it is for a reason. There really are no amenities included. In order to get food, you have to buy it. It’s ranked above the others because snacks are not insanely expensive.

4. Southwest

For having pretty inexpensive plane tickets, Southwest offers some neat deals. Along with free luggage, they will provide peanuts and sometimes pretzels for free. Not too shabby of a deal if you’re starving for something to eat.

3. United

Moving up in the game a bit, United Airlines offers economy seating a pretzel/nut trail mix snack. If you are looking for some variety over your basic pretzels and peanuts, try this airline. However, there isn’t really any other options.

You can always make your own trail mix though, check out 10 cheap and easy recipes here.

2. American Airlines

American Airlines adds a new twist to airplane food. They have free mini pretzels and Biscoff cookies. T make you feel a little fancier versus having peanuts.

1. Delta

airlines

Delta offers you not one, not two, but three different options for a free snack on board. This includes mini pretzels, peanuts, and Biscoff cookies. With the most options (and pretty decent ones too) Delta is your go-to for free food.

There you have it, the best free food you can get in the air. Of course, free non-alcoholic beverages are always included. So pile up on the snacks and drinks to get the most of your money.
