Italy is not only known for its stunning scenery, historical landmarks, and beautiful beaches, but its millions of handcrafted gelato flavors as well. Nothing can beat the creamy, rich authenticity of Italian gelato. And when in Italy, who's to stop you from binge eating? 

I know that when I was touring Italy this summer, it felt almost impossible not to stop at every gelato stand I encountered throughout the day. Although I felt guilty (not to mention a little nauseous, too) looking back now, I appreciate my decision because it brought you this article.

So with that, here are the best gelato places to hit up in Italy.

Gelateria Ca' d'Oro

Foot traffic stops here at Gelateria Ca' d'Oro for spectacularly creamy gelato made in-house daily. For a summer pick-me-up, try the espresso, dark chocolate, and strawberry flavors, perhaps in a waffle cone (pictured). 

GROM

Gelaterie GROM, located in Venice, has a delicious variety of gelato and sorbets. With various locations throughout Italy, you're more than likely to find GROM in other cities such as Florence and Rome as well. So keep an eye out! 

Gelato Fantasy

Conveniently located right next to my hotel in Venice, Gelato Fantasy was the place-to-be each night before heading up to my room after a very busy day touring. I highly recommend trying their Kit Kat gelato (pictured), as that was my go-to flavor. 

Venchi

Located in Florence, Venchi Cioccolato is not only trendy, but is conveniently placed next to the infamous leather market in the center of the city. So after you finish your shopping, you can head over to Venchi for some amazing gelato in just about every flavor imaginable. I tried the dark chocolate flavor, and had a taste of the raspberry flavor, which my friend got (pictured). 

Ciucculá

This artisanal gelato shop, located in Rome next to the Pantheon, is the perfect place to make a stop on a hot day. With its adorable interior and friendly staff, Ciucculá is a popular tourist destination for delicious, creamy gelato. 

Magnum

Well this isn't actually considered gelato and exists in various locations across the United States, there is absolutely no way you can pass up a Magnum ice cream bar while in Venice. There's no better way to eat Magnum ice cream than the place where it was actually originated. And, may I add, it actually tastes better in Italy than it does in the United States. 

So now that you're familiar with some of Italy's best gelato locations, who's to stop you from pigging out on your travels? Because there's no better sensation than tasting that first lick of summer.
