After last year’s whole “War on Christmas” debacle, Starbucks is heading into this holiday season with a new and fresh approach.
Starbucks baristas dished their best tips to Spoon for enjoying a lighter sip this season.
For one, try skipping the whipped cream. By requesting just a little whip or no whip, you can save between 80 to 110 calories, depending on the size and type of drink. That’s no small number.
You can also ask to make your drink “light” or “skinny.” Basically, this just means that the drink will be made with nonfat milk and without whipped cream. It’ll still taste just as delicious.
Another great hack is to ask for fewer pumps of syrup. This will reduce the sweetness a little, but it will also reduce a ton of calories. Personally, I feel like sometimes they pump way too much syrup, so by cutting back it actually ends up tasting better
Finally, customers can also choose from a selection of holiday beverages that are 150 calories or less for a tall (12 oz). #Winning.
Skinny Peppermint Mocha
Fewer calories, still delish. The Skinny Peppermint Mocha is a combo of espresso, creamy steamed nonfat milk, sugar-free mocha sauce, and sugar-free peppermint syrup. (120 calories)
Skinny Gingerbread Latte with No Whip
Mmm, sweet and delicately spicy gingerbread flavors mingle with espresso and steamed nonfat milk. So. freakin’. tasty. (160 calories)
Caramel Brulée Light Frappuccino
Who said Frappuccinos had to be unhealthy? Caramel Brulée sauce is blended with Frappuccino roast coffee, nonfat milk, and ice for a lighter version of this holiday favorite. (130 calories)
Iced Chestnut Praline Latte with Almond Milk and No Whip
Festive flavors like caramelized chestnuts and subtle holiday spices mingle with espresso and almond milk over ice. I need this delivered to my class rn. (140 calories)
Eggnog Light Frappuccino
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: I hated eggnog until I tried this drink. Creamy eggnog is blended with Frappuccino roast coffee and ice. Boo-ya. (140 calories)
Going to Starbucks during the holiday season doesn’t mean you’re going to gain a bunch of weight and look like Santa Claus incarnate. Just keep these tips in mind and you’ll be free to indulge in as many Peppermint Skinny Mochas as your heart desires.
