See What Happens When Second Graders Eat a $220 Meal

What’s the recipe to creating the most adorable video ever? Taking a group of second graders for a meal at a restaurant with two Michelin stars.

The New York Times treated six very lucky second-graders from P.S. 295 in Brooklyn to a 7-course meal at the restaurant Daniel. For how much? $220 a pop. I’m insanely jealous but the video makes up for it—somewhat.

Chef Daniel Boloud wanted the youngsters to have a unique experience of tasting the many flavors, layers and textures of food. As a young boy, he lived on a farm and had an intimate connection with food. City kids don’t quite have that same experience. Throughout the meal, Daniel explained the dishes and even showed the whole fish that was used for one of the courses. Surprisingly (and thankfully), the students were quite adventurous.

Sure, the clips of the food prep and dishes satisfied my food porn needs, but the quotes from the kids were even better.

7. Lemon Scented Madeleines
“This…. Is awesome!”

But the best was when Daniel confessed, “Next time we do macaroni and cheese.” To end the night, the kids clinked their glasses for a toast to “justice and all… [and] to vampires!”
