The Dairy Queen Blizzard is a classic treat that mechanically blends soft-serve ice cream with different mix-ins, such as candy, cookie pieces, and brownie bites. Since the company’s founding in 1940, Dairy Queen has cycled through plenty, and 170 flavors have been discontinued. Some flavors stay discontinued (RIP Piñata Party Blizzard), while others, such as the Brownie Batter Blizzard, the Cotton Candy Blizzard, and the Frosted Animal Cookie Blizzard, have come back to DQ menus after a while. For those discontinued flavors, many fans of the franchise have turned to secret menus and Reddit threads to figure out how to recreate these delicious discontinued treats that have been put in the back of the DQ freezer. Until now.
This year, for the first time ever, fans of the franchise had a say in the return of a certain flavor. From December 9 to 19, Blizzard lovers could vote for which discontinued fan-favorite Dairy Queen Blizzard will be returning in 2025 via the app. DQ rewards members were able to choose between three Blizzard flavors – Georgia Mud Fudge, S’mores, and Cappuccino Heath Crunch — and the returning has finally been announced.
Which retired Dairy Queen Blizzard is returning in 2025?
The S’mores Blizzard, the Georgia Mud Fudge Blizzard, and the Cappuccino Heath Blizzard were heavily debated upon for their grand return. Each flavor is distinct and delicious in its own way, making this a difficult decision for long-time fans.
S’mores Blizzard Treat
The S’mores Blizzard was first introduced in 2013, and was a fan fave for the duration of its stay before it was discontinued in 2020. This Blizzard is a delicious blend of your core s’more ingredients: chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers. Marshmallow-filled chocolate bars are blended with graham crackers and vanilla soft-serve to create this frozen treat — no campfire needed.
Georgia Mud Fudge Blizzard treat
The Georgia Mud Fudge Blizzard, first introduced in 1985, uses vanilla soft-serve as a base, which is blended with DQ’s velvety chocolate fudge sauce, brownie pieces, and pecans. This treat has a bit of a salty touch, and is a great option for nutty chocolate lovers, and fans of mud pies.
Cappuccino Heath Blizzard Treat
This one is a great option for coffee enthusiasts like myself, who have been missing out on the Cappuccino Heath Blizzard since its departure. Vanilla soft-serve is combined with a coffee base and then blended with heath bar pieces, chocolate fudge, and toffee to make a sweet and frosty cappuccino in a cup with a bit of a crunch.
The retired Dairy Queen Blizzard returning to DQ stores is…
After long deliberation (10 days to be exact) the fans have spoken, and the results are in: The S’mores Blizzard Treat will be making its long-awaited comeback in 2025! The flavor will return to the DQ menus in April 2025, and fans are already celebrating. Talk about a (camp)fiery return.
As fans wait patiently for S’mores to make a triumphant return in April, they can get the other two discontinued flavors in the meantime by making a custom order — the ingredients are all at DQ already! The S’mores Blizzard, though, requires unique ingredients that aren’t in other Blizzards — no wonder the flavor won!
