*In RuPaul’s voice* Hello, hello, hello! Now, ladykins, season 17 of RuPaul’s Drag Race is currently airing every Friday night on MTV, and the queens are already slaying just a few episodes into it. Cast members Acacia Forgot, Arrietty, Crystal Envy, Hormona Lisa, Jewels Sparkles, Joella, Kori King, Lexi Love, Lucky Starzzz, Lydia B Kollins, Onya Nurve, Sam Star, Suzie Toot, and Lana Ja’Rae have come to werk, werk, and werk.
Excitingly, the library isn’t the only thing open. The bakery is open, too! Drag artist Lana Ja’Rae who hails from New York City, just dropped the most delicious cookie collab with NYC’s LGBTQ+, sex-positive bakery Sugar Wood. It’s serving, literally. Lana teamed up with the naughty and iconic dessert shop to craft “Lana’s Legendary Legs,” catchphrase “Gouda Morning,” high heel, and crown-shaped cookies as part of the collab. These sweets can be purchased alongside Sugar Wood’s famous NSFW naughty waffles and cookies. (If you have a bachelor or bachelorette party coming up, this is definitely a one-stop-shop for all of your sexy needs.) You can grab a three-, six, or eight-pack for your next episode watch party right here, all while supporting an innovative NYC-based bakery.
Spoon University caught up with Austin Allan, founder of Sugar Wood and RuPaul’s Drag Race star Lana Ja’Rae to hear more about their delicious cookie collab. Let’s get into it, squirrel friends.
Spoon University: How does Sugar Wood serve as a happy/safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals?
Austin Allan: Sugar Wood is proud to be an LGBTQ+-owned and operated business that believes in fostering an inclusive, sex-positive environment and culture that is changing the narrative around sexual taboos by amplifying marginalized voices, and promoting larger conversations around education and normalization. Our delicious sweet treats are more than just silly desserts – they echo our mission of injecting levity and humor while destigmatizing stigmas and uplifting the LGBTQ+ community.
SU: Tell us your favorite part of bringing this dazzling collab to life.
Allan: Working with Lana Ja’Rae has been a dream come true…especially as a lifelong Drag Race fan. Any opportunity to work alongside another LGBTQ+ artist is always special, but working to celebrate the sense of playfulness, and “unseriousness” as she says through our own humorous and uplifting desserts perfectly embodies the spirit of our brand and this partnership. Their creativity and enthusiasm for the project was contagious. I’m excited for everyone to experience the magic of this collab!
SU: How did you create your cookie collab and find a treat inspired by your drag?
Lana Ja’Rae: This cookie collab is the absolute cookie of your ja’reams! When I sat down with Sugar Wood, it was clear we were all on the same page of making something that truly captured the essence of drag – confident, playful, and bold! The entire process, from start to finish was so much fun – being in a room filled with creativity and enthusiasm made it easy (and exciting) to push the envelope and create something we are all really proud of!
SU: How has your life changed since the premiere of Drag Race and what do you hope to do after the season officially airs?
Lana: This has been a life-changing experience, and nothing short of overwhelming seeing the support from fans! I hope to give young LGBTQ+ people and anyone watching the sense of self and sense of love that drag has brought me.
You can catch new RuPaul’s Drag Race episodes on Friday nights at 8 PM ET on MTV. You can also stream the show on Philo, FuboTV and DirecTV Stream.
