I Tried Krispy Kreme’s New Mini Easter Doughnuts

Krispy Kreme has just released just in time for Easter! The bright colors and fresh flavors will have you hopping through the field on a sunny, spring morning! As soon as they dropped, I knew I had to get my hands on them.

The first flavor they released is the mini cake batter-filled egg. This doughnut is filled with chocolate cream and dipped in chocolate icing. It’s then topped off with a bright blue and yellow drizzle. The chocolate on the inside was just the perfect chocolate flavor; it wasn’t overpowering and the icing on top made it even better by giving it that extra chocolatey goodness that the very little filling didn’t provide.

The second doughnut — strawberry and cream — has a cream filling, and is dipped in strawberry icing and then dusted with mini sprinkles. Who doesn’t love sprinkles? I know I do! They’re like the cherry on top to your ice cream sundae — doughnuts won’t be good without it. The strawberry flavor, personally, was too strong, but the cream on the inside was so smooth and light that complemented the sweetness of the strawberry.

A mini chick is the third doughnut of the bath. Designed to look like a mini chicken, the doughnut is dipped in bright yellow icing decorated with icing sugar complete with small eyes and an orange beak. It’s filled with Krispy Kreme’s classic cream. The icing and the sugar on top were too sweet for me. The idea of the little chicken was so cute and brought the idea of Easter all together with the chick and eggs.

Last, but certainly not least, is the cake batter doughnut. Filled with cake batter cream, this mini treat is dipped in a sky blue icing and decorated with even more sprinkles than the strawberries and cream doughnut. The cake batter flavor of this egg-filled donut was just right. The taste was not overpowering and came towards the end of that perfect sweet note of cake batter — reminds me of when I was young when we used to lick the cake batter off the spoon.

Overall, my favorite doughnut was the chocolate cream-filled egg. You can never go wrong with a small chocolate donut to fulfill your sweet tooth! I just wish they were all filled a little bit more to get more of that smooth cream filling.

I will be looking forward to Krispy Kreme’s summer collection, similar to their Island Time donut collection last year!

I am currently a senior at Cabrini University studying digital communication and social media with a minor in marketing. Since I was young, I have always had a love for food and the knowledge behind where food comes from. I grew up always watching Food Network and keeping up to date with all the master chefs in the industry. Throughout my time in highschool, and currently, I worked at IHOP, which allowed me to become more curious of the business and marketing side of the industry. With this degree, I hope to land a career in food journalism and food marketing.
