While the Obamas were known for eating leafy greens, former Vice President Joe Biden loves to indulge in sweets. To be more specific, he's obsessed with ice cream. In fact, Biden loves ice cream so much that Biden will now have his own ice cream flavor thanks to Cornell Dairy, Cornell University's ice cream brand.

The Back Story

Throughout his terms as a vice president, Biden made it known that he was a big fan of ice cream. In fact, he once started a speech by saying "My name is Joe Biden, and I love ice cream," according to CBS News.

Biden even went further to make an appearance on shows, such as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he relished a fresh cone with Fallon himself.

When news got out that Biden was the guest speaker at Cornell's graduation this year, a student named Molly Mandel, who previously worked at the Cornell Dairy Processing Plant decided to make Biden feel a little extra welcome by naming ice cream after him.

Since Mandel wasn't sure what Biden's favorite flavor was she called his Alma mater's ice cream shop, UDairy Creamery and found out that Biden's favorite flavor was chocolate chip.

A Facebook page was then made called “Joe Biden eats Cornell Dairy ice cream,” where more than 3,000 people were intrigued by the idea.

As a result, Cornell Dairy decided to make it happen and the process of making Biden's unique ice cream began.

The Official Name?

While the possibilities of flavor names started with 150, it has now been narrowed down to 5.

The possibilities are: Biden’s Chocolate Bites, Bits n’ Biden, Not Your Average Joe’s Chocolate Chip; and Uncle Joe’s Chocolate Chip, and Big Red, White & Biden.

“It’s Cornell’s Dairy’s duty to help out here,” Mandel told The Cornell Daily Sun. “I think it’s common sense for Cornell Dairy to make a Joe Biden flavor and it gets people even more excited.”
