You probably know influencer and comedian Jake Shane from his hilarious skits, comedic songs, or star-studded podcast episodes. He’s had a lot of bits go viral, but one of his most popular series is his Popsicle reveals that he shares on TikTok. In these videos, Shane and his friends will each have a Popsicle, and one by one, unwrap them with eyes closed. They are all hoping to get the same flavor — cherry. When they don’t, a wave of disappointment washes over them. But when it’s revealed that they were lucky enough to get a cherry-flavored one, they literally scream out of happiness.
Shane has teamed up with Popsicle to make the Popsicle box of his dreams: all of the Popsicles are cherry flavored. His face is even on the packaging. If you’re a fan of the cherry Popsicle like Shane is, this collab was literally made for you. You can enter for a chance to win your own box of Jake Shane’s All Cherry Popsicles by liking and commenting on his announcement TikTok, as well as following @popsicleicepops. The giveaway ends October 6th, so get your entries in now.
Like all of his content that’s blown up, Shane did not expect his Popsicle reveal series to become as popular as it is. “I really just decided one day that I have free will, and I can order popsicles if I wanted to,” Shane said. He thought it would be funny to film a Popsicle reveal, in the hopes that he would get the red Popsicle. The series ended up blowing up, and fans really resonated with it. “I think everyone realized that you can spend five minutes of your day doing something funny and not thinking about bad shit,” Shane said.
While cherry Popsicles hold a special place in Shane’s heart, so does octopus — that’s why he affectionately calls his fans “pussies.” Specifically, Shane can’t get enough of grilled octopus. One of his favorite places to get octopus from is Angelini Osteria in Los Angeles. Shane loves when the octopus is crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, salty, and served over some greens. You’ve got to have a squeeze of lemon on top as well.
Before Shane was taking over the internet, he was in college like the rest of us. The one food that comes to mind when he thinks back on his college experience is rice bowls with some kind of meat. “I had that all the time, from any place I could,” Shane said.
Post-college, Shane’s palate has expanded past simple bowls of rice and chicken. These days, he enjoys a wide range of cuisine, including Thai. In fact, if he could design his own dining hall menu, he would put every item from Anajak Thai’s menu in Los Angeles on it. That includes Chinese sausage fried rice, drunken noodles, and southern-Thai fried chicken — a stark difference from your average dining hall menu. I would go to the dining hall for every meal if that was the menu at my school.
Shane is passionate about his favorite foods, like Thai, but he also feels strongly about the foods he dislikes. In his song “Things I Hate” from his debut comedy album “Puss & Poems,” Shane goes off on all the foods he can’t stand, from pizza to egg salad to cotton candy. But his absolute least favorite? Strawberry milkshakes. “I think if you’re going to make a fruit in ice cream, you need to make it a sorbet,” Shane said. You won’t catch him sipping on any strawberry shakes anytime soon. In his song, he says they’re like ice cream blood.
Shane isn’t just a hater, though — he has a few underrated snacking favorites that he thinks everyone needs to try. Garrett Simply Salted Popcorn is one of his go-tos, as well as gummies from the German brand Katjes. He also thinks everyone should give truffle salt a chance.
As a self-proclaimed foodie, it makes sense that Shane credits Popsicle as being his dream food collab — but that’s just one exciting thing going on in his life right now. He’s finishing up season two of Therapuss, his talk show where he gets into deep conversations with guests like Selena Gomez and Glen Powell. With the 100th episode approaching, Shane has some exciting guests in store. In the meantime, we’ll be opening our own Popsicles and hoping for cherry.
