Have you ever scrolled through your Instagram explore page and come across some truly delectable food porn? Maybe it was a slow mac n’ cheese pull or a decadent brownie sundae. Well, I got the chance to taste food porn worthy cookies in real life and here’s what I thought.
The owners of Fat and Weird Cookie Company, Aubrie and Brad, were kind enough to send me five of their most popular cookie flavors. These cookies are not your average baked good — each cookie is not only massive, but unique. The cookies begin with a base that is mixed with various ingredients and they are finished off with a funky name to make them not only fat, but weird.
I tasted Fat and Weird’s cookies, rating them based on three categories: taste, texture and creativity. The packaging recommended the cookies be warmed up for 12 seconds in the microwave or in the oven at 350 degrees for 3-5 minutes. I tried both ways, but baking the cookies in the oven was definitely the way to go. Once they were warm and gooey, I was ready to dig in.
Big Sexy
I decided to start off strong with “Big Sexy”. The name speaks for itself, but this flavor is a chocolate chip cookie base, swirled with salted caramel pieces.
Taste: 8/10
This cookie had the perfect ratio of dough, chocolate and caramel. No flavor dominated another. The buttery caramel paired nicely with the decadent chocolate, but it was lacking some salty relief from all the sweetness. The cookie was not too rich or heavy, so I am confident I could’ve eaten the whole thing. However, I still had four giant cookies left, so I needed to pace myself!
Texture: 10/10
Big Sexy sure lived up to its name when I bit into the gooey caramel. The texture of this cookie was perfect. It was crunchy on the outside, yet still soft and warm on the inside. The chocolate and caramel oozed out in perfect harmony with each bite.
Creativity: 6/10
The creativity wasn’t out of this world for this cookie, but it was executed very well. Caramel and chocolate is a classic combination, so you can’t go wrong with that.
The Black Beauty
The next treat I tasted was “The Black Beauty”. The Black Beauty is a chocolate cookie base, stuffed with white chocolate chunks, chocolate sandwich cookie crumbles AND a cookies and cream bar.
Taste: 9/10
This cookie is the perfect blend of black cocoa and white chocolate. I’m not exaggerating when I say eating this cookie was a heavenly experience. The Black Beauty tasted like an Oreo, but ten times better because it was accompanied by gooey white chocolate chunks and a warm dough. The taste of this cookie was as close as you can get to perfection.
Texture: 4/10
Unfortunately, the texture for this flavor was lacking. The cookie was a little dry and crumbly. I was hoping that the inside of the cookie would be moist. It definitely left me wanting more.
Creativity: 6/10
While the premise of this cookie is cookies and cream, Aubrie and Brad went a step further, incorporating white chocolate and the cookies and cream bar. Doing this sent this cookie flavor into another dimension.
The Brad
Next, I moved onto “The Brad”. The Brad has a classic oatmeal cookie base with massive chocolate chunks mixed in.
Taste: 7/10
When first biting into The Brad, the taste of chocolate was overwhelming… in the best way possible. I am a chocolate lover, so The Brad hit the spot in terms of chocolatey goodness. I think the amount of chocolate was perfect, but I can understand if some people might find it overbearing.
Texture: 3/10
Sadly, The Brad was very dry and hard to bite into. Again, I was hoping that the chocolate would ooze out when I broke into it, but alas — there was no chocolate pull. The Brad had the potential for gooey chocolate goodness, but it failed to meet my expectations.
Creativity: 2/10
The Brad is basically a large version of the classic oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. In terms of creativity, The Brad leaves more to be desired, but you can’t go wrong with a classic oatmeal cookie.
The Pudge
Next up is “The Pudge”. The Pudge has a peanut butter cookie base, mixed with chocolate chunks, topped with Reese’s Pieces, AND stuffed with an entire XL peanut butter cup. Enough said.
Taste: 8/10
Just like Fat and Weird cookie says, this cookie is a “peanut butter lover’s dream”. Each glorious bite is a mouthful of indulgent peanut butter and sweet chocolate. Personally, I would have enjoyed the cookie more if there was a larger ratio of chocolate to peanut butter. The XL Reese’s cup was slightly overpowering, but if you got just the right bite of the peanut butter cup and cookie dough, it was delicious.
Texture: 10/10
The Pudge was just like it sounds: soft, buttery, and it melted in my mouth instantly. The Reese’s Pieces on top melted just the right amount. The peanut butter cup inside stayed intact, while its chocolate shell oozed out in just the right way. The Pudge delivered when it came to texture.
Creativity: 8/10
Aubrie and Brad took a classic combo of peanut butter and chocolate and revamped it. Stuffing a cookie with an entire peanut butter cup is a bold move and I have to say they pulled it off.
The Party Animal
Last, but by no means least, I tried “The Party Animal”. The Party Animal has a sugar cookie base that is woven with rainbow sprinkles and stuffed with vanilla frosting. The cookie is finished off with a frosted animal cracker on top.
Taste: 7/10
The Party Animal is the cookie version of the best birthday cake anyone could ever have. The sweetness of the vanilla frosting is complemented by the crunchy animal cracker. However, it was very sweet and could be overbearing at times. The sugariness made it hard to eat more than a few bites at once, but considering I’d already eaten four huge cookies today, it was probably for the best.
Texture: 10/10
Like The Pudge, The Party Animal delivered when it came to texture. The cookie came out of the oven soft and warm. The vanilla icing melted ever so slightly, adding a creaminess that elevated the cookie.
Creativity: 10/10
This cookie is delicious, Instagram worthy, and out of the box. The Party Animal is like a birthday cake on steroids. Stuffing the cookie with icing and topping it off with a frosted animal cracker is a stroke of genius, leading me to give The Party Animal a perfect 10 for creativity.
Final Rankings:
1) Black Beauty
2) Big Sexy
