I Tried All Of The Cookies At Levain On Newbury: Here Are My Ratings

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Northeastern chapter.

Having a bad day? Having a mediocre day? Having a good day? No matter what, dessert’s always the answer. If you’re in Boston, there’s no better place to get dessert than at Levain’s new Newbury location.

This was my first time trying the cookies at Levain, and my roommate Sarah (who also took all of the amazing pictures in this article) had a fantastic idea: buy all five flavors and split them with our friends so we could sample everything. After a major sugar coma and an in-depth analysis, here are my thoughts

1) Chocolate Chip Walnut

A twist on a classic, and Levain’s original flavor. The walnuts added a bit of a crunch and broke up the chocolate flavor, preventing it from being overpowering. If you love chocolate chip cookies but want to try a little something different, this one’s for you. This cookie was perfectly baked too – super soft and gooey. A solid 9/10.

2) Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip

Chocolate overload. This one reminded me of a brownie both in texture and in flavor, so it’s essentially the ultimate dessert. I absolutely love chocolate, so I enjoyed this one. The dark chocolate chips made it even better. Once again, it was warm and gooey – an 8.5/10.

3) Oatmeal Raisin

The perfect way to break up the chocolatey sweetness of the other flavors, but the oatmeal raisin cookie sure did not disappoint. It was soft and chewy without being overpoweringly sweet, and I’d recommend it to anyone that doesn’t have the biggest sweet tooth or who doesn’t love chocolate all that much. Although I am a huge chocolate fan, I really liked this one. 9/10.

4) Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip

Chocolate and peanut butter – a classic combination. While not my favorite of the five, it was still (unsurprisingly) soft and chewy. I loved the chocolate taste of the cookie cookie, as it tasted similar to the dark chocolate chocolate chip cookie. Although, I was hoping for a more peanut butter flavor though. I think overall, the chocolate masked the peanut butter chips a bit too much for my taste. This one was an 8/10.

5) Two Chip Chocolate Chip

A classic. Honestly, it was more chocolate chip than cookie (not that I’m complaining though). This one melted in my hands because of how many chocolate chips there were. A 10/10 and my personal favorite. You can NEVER go wrong with chocolate chip cookies, and Levain’s are some of of the best I’ve ever had!

The Verdict

If I had to give a recommendation, I’d go with the two chip chocolate chip and the oatmeal raisin. The chocolate chip is for anyone who loves chocolate and wants to start with a classic. The oatmeal raisin is for anyone who isn’t a huge chocolate fan or doesn’t have the biggest sweet tooth. But honestly, you can’t go wrong at Levain, since every one of their flavors is delicious. I can foresee myself coming here a lot over the next few years!
