I admit it — I am hummus-obsessed. I mean, who doesn’t love it? It’s the perfect snack — healthy, satisfying and yummy. There’s something so soothing about its texture when paired with a great pita chip or pretzel flat that makes it the shining star of any snack sesh.
Trader Joe’s doesn’t disappoint when it comes to delivering a variety of chickpea spread goodness. There are lots of options (almost an overwhelming amount!), but I picked five to try and review. They are ranked in order from least favorite to my no. 1 most favorite. Here we go!
5. Tomato & Basil Hummus
This dip’s texture was just okay, a little grainy, actually, and didn’t deliver the smooth texture I prefer. Plus, the flavor profile seemed a little off to me, almost like eating a pizza spread. While I know that sounds like it would be delicious… it wasn’t.
4. Mediterranean Hummus
Rich and smooth, this spread is a perfect mix of parsley and pine nuts that are sprinkled on top for extra flavor. However, the olive oil that was floating on top was a bit unappealing to me. Once the toppings were eaten, it just tasted like plain, ordinary hummus.
3. Edamame Hummus
I love edamame and I love hummus—so a blended combination is a win-win for me. Honestly, the flavor of edamame could be a little stronger, but the taste is still very satisfying. The spread has a cool, light feeling, and is a true winner that will always remain on my go-to hummus list.
2. Roasted Garlic Hummus
This simple hummus with roasted garlic overtones is amazing. The texture is superb: thick and creamy. It is awesome when paired with pretzel flats or pita chips. The rich, garlicky tahini flavor is perfection.
1. Sriracha Hummus
Last, but certainly not least, is my all-time favorite hummus flavor. With just the right amount of spiciness (not too overpowering), this spread is fresh-tasting and tangy. I highly recommend this hummus for anyone who likes a little spice. Not only is it great for pairing with carrots or chips, this Sriracha Hummus would be a perfect, healthy alternative to chipotle mayo as a condiment for your favorite sandwich. Yum.
You can’t go wrong with most of these TJ Hummus options. Plus, consider this: With bathing suit season approaching, it’s not a bad idea to ditch salty chips in favor of a low-calorie, healthy snack like hummus and raw veggies. Happy snacking!
