Wicked, the upcoming movie based on the hit Broadway Musical and book by Gregory Maguire, comes out on streaming services (Prime Video, Peacock, and Max) on November 25, just three days after the movie’s U.S. release in theaters. With Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as Glinda and Elphaba, some iconic collabs and merchandise drops have popped up everywhere — from Mattel dolls, to drink collabs, to grocery items — this movie is pretty hard to miss.
Here’s how to throw the perfect Wicked watch party bash in celebration of the long-anticipated movie’s release.
Food
Along with your favorite party snacks — pizza, chips with guac, Cheetos, jalapeno poppers — you’ll also need, you guessed it, pink and green snacks. One perfect, easily customizable option is a fruit plate. Green fruits like green grapes, kiwi, and honeydew; and pink fruits like strawberries, raspberries, and watermelon, are absolutely perfect for this dish. Serve it up on a platter, in a bowl, or straight out of the containers for the perfect pink and green snack to get your friends in the mood for the movie.
With such a star studded cast, of course there’s some official collaborations — even in the grocery aisle! Betty Crocker has released a Wicked-themed vanilla cupcake mix and cookie dough pops. TikTok user @Missremiashten on Tiktok tested out these cookie dough pops so you don’t have to:
You can make something similar to these sponsored snacks on your own, too. These pink and green frosted cupcakes by user @therosetable on TikTok will knock your guests’ ruby red (or silver) slippers right off. There are even Wicked cupcake-toppers that would look incredible on these cupcakes, find them here, or make your own using toothpicks and your own craft supplies!
You can also create some Wicked-themed cake pops like user @popanddine, who made some using regular cake ingredients, and white chocolate (dyed pink or green, of course) for the outside layer. Sprinkles are not a necessity, but they’re a great touch.
Drinks
Midori is a melon-flavored liquor with a greenish hue. The cocktail is originally from Japan, but has grown astoundingly popular — no pun intended — for its vibrant green color and sharp, tangy taste.
All you need for the perfect midori sour is midori, vodka, lemon juice, lime juice (or sliced limes), ice, and club soda/seltzer. Mix it together, and top it off with a garnish like a fresh lemon or lime. TikTok user @prince_cornerbar makes a perfectly vibrant midori sour in just a few easy steps.
For the Glinda-pink drink, I recommend a strawberry mojito. It’s a sweeter cocktail for those who don’t vibe so much with the Midori Sour. It’s the perfect party drink, and it’s super easy to make.
All you need for the mojito is strawberry puree, lime, mint leaves, brown sugar, rum, ice, and club soda or seltzer. Top it off with garnishes like strawberries or limes, and serve. Check out how user @everydaycocktail on TikTok makes a strawberry mojito (they even make the strawberry puree on their own, and you can too!)
Who doesn’t love a strawberry matcha? This beverage is the best of both worlds — and it’s perfect for anyone who’s not vibing with the cocktails. This pink and green drink can be made at home, or you can stop at your favorite boba shop to get some for your friends.
User @kristeacafe on TikTok makes a simple strawberry matcha, easy to recreate at home (especially for matcha fans, who may already have some matcha powder lying around). She puts strawberry puree at the bottom of a cup (which can be store-bought or home-made if you’re feeling fancy), pours the milk of her choice, and tops it off matcha concentrate (matcha powder mixed with water, preferably with a whisk).
All together, strawberry matcha is the perfect drink for your daily matcha kick and caffeine fix, wonderfully sweet and creamy. It’s the perfect treat to have alongside a good movie!
Photo Booth
Pink goes good with green, don’t you think? You certainly will after you transport yourself to Oz by making your own themed photobooth in just a few easy steps. It’s the ultimate Oz-ian photo-op!
Your “photobooth” doesn’t need a fancy camera or lighting — just your phone’s ten-second-timer and your closest friends will do. Here’s how to make the perfect photobooth:
For your background, pin up these green and pink backdrops next to each other, each covering half the wall behind you. Then, you can add some green and pink balloons framing the screen, or pinned up on the back wall.
You can buy your Wicked props, or craft your own using popsicle sticks and craft supplies you might already have at home. You can even let people choose between an Elphaba witch hat and a Glinda crown or wand for their Wicked photoshoot.
You can have someone operating the camera, or simply use your phone or camera’s timer to capture the optimal pictures of you and your guests. Remember to send everyone their photos after the party’s over!
Once everyone is satisfied with their pictures, food, and drink selections, gather around the screen and tune into the Wicked movie, on streaming platforms starting on November 25.
With the preparations you did, you and your guests are bound to have a Wicked good time.
