Tips For Creating The Perfect Girls Night

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UFL chapter.

We’ve all been there: physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted from everyday life. Maybe you’re currently working 30+ hours a week. Maybe you decided to take 18 credits this semester. Maybe you’re not actually dealing with big stressors, but you’re just so hangry that everything seems impossible. There are a couple remedies that never fail me when I’m in my funk, but at the top of this list is a classic Girl’s Night. Wrangle together your closest gal pals and get ready for an unforgettable night.

Tip #1: Start That Group Chat ASAP

Arguably, one of the hardest parts of this entire night is actually planning it! Knowing everyone is most likely on completely different schedules, go ahead and get that group chat going. This way, you can plan the perfect time and place so that all of your girlfriends are able to attend. This is also a great place to intermingle your friend groups. Ironically, I have met some of my best friends through other people. Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone!

Tip #2: Break Out The Clorox Wipes

Yes, I said it. You’re probably going to have to pick up a Clorox wipe or two and clean the mess that’s been lying around for 3 weeks. I am not saying that your friends will immediately end the relationship when they see your moldy mugs or half-eaten sandwiches, but they probably will enjoy the experience more if they weren’t there. Get those candles lit, lay out some fuzzy blankets, and plug back in those Christmas lights that you’ve had for months.

Tip #3: Plan The Activities Ahead Of Time

The best Girl’s Nights revolve around the activity. This could be a movie, game night, or just a couple hours of gossiping. Honestly, it just depends on the group. However, you will want to start thinking about these things as soon as the group chat starts going. You’re going to need to set up your space with the right atmosphere.

If you’re doing a game night, make sure you have the games laid out and plenty of table or floor space. If you’re doing a movie night, get the movie ready to play before anyone even arrives. You’ll definitely need cozy blankets and plenty of pillows for this one. And with gossiping, all you need is your closest girls and the latest tea.

Tip #4: Keep The Snacks Coming

100%, without a doubt, you will NEED snacks. Some of my favorite appetizers at Trader Joe’s are the Spinach and Artichoke Dip, Pastry Bites with Feta Cheese & Caramelized Onions, and the Chicken Spring Rolls. Pop these bad boys in the microwave or oven and you’ve got yourself fancy snacks in just minutes.

For a movie night, you’re for sure going to need popcorn. Skinnygirl Lime & Salt popcorn is the absolute best. Not only is it delicious, but it’s also lighter in calories. A Girl’s Night is definitely not the place to get in shape, but saving a couple calories won’t hurt. Most importantly, keep a few sweets on deck. You could be extravagant with an ice-cream sundae bar or keep it simple with a pack of double-stuff Oreos.

Tip #5: Capture The Moment

Between the cozy atmosphere and food coma you’re probably in, take time to cherish these moments. You could very well be showing your kids these pictures in 10-15 years and referring to them as “the good ol’ days”. Break out your Polaroid camera and capture your aesthetic memories.

When it comes to a great Girl’s Night, all you really need is your very best friends. Stress from everyday life is going to be a constant throughout your college career, but it is so important to prioritize those care-free, laughter-filled, one of a kind Girl’s Nights. Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte figured it out and so can we.

My name is Olivia and I am a 2nd year Business student. I am passionate about food and health, and have aspirations of opening up my own restaurant one day. My hope is that my education here at the University of Florida drives me to reach my potential and provides me with opportunities to make this dream come true.
