5 Ways To Dress Up Your Microwave Popcorn

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at BU chapter.

Growing up, microwave popcorn was always a fvorite during a scary movie night or a sleepover party. Ten years later, this snack has followed me and everyone I know to college. In case you haven’t noticed, the aroma of popcorn lingers in the air of most college dorms. Microwave popcorn is a staple to most college students. Its quick, easy, filling, and yummy. Living in a dorm room may not give you access to a kitchen full of ingredients, but there are still many creative ways to add some color to your bowl. Satisfy your cravings by adding a little spice or sweetness for a desirable snack!

If you’ve been to Italy, or any authentic Italian restaurant, you know that truffle is somewhere on the menu. So, truffle lovers gather ’round! You can take your microwave popcorn to a gourmet level with a bit of truffle oil, parmesan cheese and rosemary.

3) S’mores Popcorn

You don’t need to sit around the campfire to enjoy the delicious taste of s’mores. Replicate your favorite summer treat by adding chocolate, mini marshmallows, and graham cracker pieces to your popcorn. Who needs a marshmallow on a stick when you have a tasty popcorn like this?

4) Peanut Butter Popcorn

Peanut butter and chocolate with popcorn brings the sweet and saltiness together perfectly. It’s a satisfying snack for watching a football game or studying late at the library. You can even wrap it up as a low-cost gift to give to friends for the holidays. Similar to caramel corn, but with the unexpected taste of creamy or crunchy peanut butter, whichever you prefer. Warning: you may become addicted.

5) Sriracha Popcorn

Sriracha is all the rage these days. It’s a budget-friendly way to spice up all your foods, including popcorn. Sometimes you just need to feel the burn to keep you going on those long days. Adding the bold flavor of Sriracha is the best condiment to ensure you have a “fire” snack!
