Hide yo kids, hide yo wife, because Pop-Tarts are about to break the internet:
Unfrosted Pop-Tarts have more calories than frosted Pop-Tarts.
Oh, shit.
Quartz broke the news to health-conscious consumers today, stating that someone had finally compared the two products. According to the site, some guy wrote about it a few years ago but no one took the claim seriously until reddit users discovered it. That’s when they stormed grocery stores around the country to get to the bottom of this very pressing issue.
Here’s what they reported:
Frosted Pop-Tarts: 35g carbs, 4.5g fat, 190 calories
Unfrosted Pop-Tarts: 37g carbs, 6g fat, 210 calories
Now people are asking why Kellogg’s would keep this vital information from its consumers. Apparently, unfrosted Pop-Tarts have a thicker crust to make up for the lack of frosting. That way, according to Kellogg’s, it enhances the toastability and the Pop-Tart doesn’t break as easily.
It was simply meant to better the unfrosted Pop-Tart experience.
Incredible life-changing information right here, people. Too bad we didn’t realize it was right in front of us every time we grabbed yet another box of the unfrosted goods. Ignorance was bliss. Sigh.
