The University of Florida Spoon chapter hosted our biggest event this year, and it was pretty sweet too. We collaborated with Big Island Bowls (a Hawaiian food company) to give away free açaí bowls to students on campus! With such an impressive turnout, we can't wait to host another event for University of Florida students.

How It Happened:

The event has been in the works for months now, and it's all thanks to Brooke, our chapter's Events Director. She put in a lot of time and effort into making this event a reality and deserves a shoutout. : ) The event took place since Spoon UF was awarded a $500 grant from Spoon University Headquarters to put on a large-scale campus event. Brooke and the other Directors brainstormed for weeks to come up with an idea, and this was the result!

The Day Of:

Students got to build their own açaí bowls, and there were an array of toppings to choose from. There was everything from bananas, to strawberries, to coconut flakes. There was a long line snaking from the Big Island Bowl tent all the way to Library West and the business school. There were over 1,600 people "interested" on Facebook, and they really showed up in droves - whenever there's free food on campus, the students are here for it!

Spoon also had a table set up next to Big Island Bowl's to give out information on Spoon U, as well as stickers and cookbooks! There was also a Spoon cookbook giveaway, and we had two lucky winners, Savannah B. and Julia D.

Sweet Endings

I'm confident that everyone in our Spoon chapter can agree that hosting this event was a blast. It benefitted Big Island Bowls and Spoon University, and if any other Spoon chapters or clubs in general are looking to host an event similar to ours, feel free to reach out to us for tips! :)

Also, a massive THANK YOU to Big Island Bowls for donating the rest of their acai to the event. Although Spoon UF only had enough funds for 90 or so bowls, Kelly from Big Island Bowls was gracious enough to feed students until supplies ran out. Partnering with local businesses is one of our favorite things to do, and we are so grateful for Big Island Bowls. For more information on upcoming Spoon UF events, like us on Facebook and follow us on Instagram. We hope you eat lots of acai during the end of the semester!
