It’s happened to all of us. All of a sudden, it’s Halloween tomorrow, and you still don’t have a costume. You can do the simple “throw on some cat ears and call it a day” move, or dig into your closet and do a repeat of last year’s costume. What many of us don’t realize is that we can make our own costumes with a lot of the stuff we already have — and it doesn’t have to be something typical. I’m always looking for creative Halloween costumes that I can throw together. Luckily, there have been a number of original ideas for last-minute Halloween costumes on social media this year — and they’re perfect for foodies.
Cosmic Brownie
Little Debbie Cosmic Brownies are a childhood staple for everyone. We all remember the rich, thick brownie covered in fudge icing and candy-coated chocolate chips. Who wouldn’t want to dress as this iconic treat for Halloween? The best part: it’s super easy to make with things you already have.
Emily Miskovic showed off her DIY cosmic brownie costume — it’s simply a brown dress with some rainbow-colored pom poms attached to it. She even threw some in her hair and added them as earrings, completing the look. People are obsessed with this idea, and how easy it is to create on your own. One TikTok user commented, “ Girl I just learned my costume isn’t coming in time and you just saved my life. Hope your pillow is always cold queen,” and attached a photo of her own cosmic brownie costume.
Pillsbury Doughboy
If you happen to have a white dress, a blue tie, and a chef’s hat lying around, you have the opportunity to transform into an iconic character of the food world for Halloween. Everyone knows the Pillsbury Doughboy — he’s the cute, puffy boy made of dough that is featured in countless Pillsbury commercials and on packaging.
To become the Pillsbury Doughboy, you really don’t need much. Cristina Merone combined a white dress and a chef’s hat to make her costume. The blue tie around her neck really sold it, as well as the Pillsbury logo on her hat. Throw in a prop cookie (or real ones) to really complete the look.
Seafood Boil
It seems like everyone is always craving a seafood boil. If you’re one of those people, then you need to dress up as one for Halloween this year. All you need is some seafood costume pieces and a plastic bag.
Kristin Hsu stuck on some lobster claws, a lobster headband, and wrapped herself in a plastic bag to create her seafood boil costume, which she says is her favorite food. Unless you have some claws and tentacles laying around, this may be a harder costume to create at the last minute — but that’s why Amazon exists! Or, head to your local thrift store and see if they have any crustacean costumes on the shelves.
Sushi
You might be thinking, how could I possibly dress up as a piece of sushi? It’s actually a lot easier than you think. Food TikToker @casslikestoeatt simply threw on a white dress to represent the rise, and wrapped a black cloth around her to be the seaweed. It then looks like she added white stripes of cloth to an orange pillow to represent a piece of salmon, and attached that to her back. Paired with some chopsticks in hand, she completely transformed into a piece of sushi.
