I have an addiction, and I admit it. What is it? Take a guess. It’s creamy, crunchy (sometimes), and has a naturally sweet taste that pairs well with every fruit and cracker in sight. It’s rich in healthy fats and plant-based protein, and it makes my heart sing every time it touches my tongue.
Almond Butter? We have a winner!
For many people, it’s peanut butter. I, however, have never been a fan of peanut butter. From the very beginning, my heart has been completely and utterly taken by the king nut butter, almond butter. It was love at first spread.
It’s not hard for me to have it multiple times in one day and include it in more than one meal. It’s also really not hard to find me leaning against my kitchen counter, scraping the bottom of a large-sized almond butter jar with a spoon, eating it just like that. (Shout out to Costco’s 27 oz. huge tub of almond butter; you are the real MVP). It’s tasty, friends. Too tasty, and I just can’t get my hands off it. Ever wondered how my day looks like, just thinking about almond butter every second, every hour? I’ll give you a closer look.
6:30 A.M. – Wake Up
My eyes flutter awake, squintingly gazing at the clock, which annoyingly buzzes for the last twenty seconds; I wish I could get more sleep. But this thought lasts literally two seconds, because I suddenly remember it’s time for breakfast, which can only mean one thing: almond butter. No joke, friends. Almond butter helps me get out of bed in the mornings. I rush to the kitchen to make myself some pancakes slathered with all the nut butter, making it safe to say that it was a good morning.
10 A.M. – In Class
The hunger always begins around four hours after breakfast…and if it’s not cured, I get hangry. Most of the time I’ll bring something that won’t make too much noise to have in class, like some fruit…but you can best bet I’m dreaming about slathering some crunchy almond butter on those fruit slices.
12 P.M. – Lunch
Lunch time at school is always one of my most awaited moments of the day. Like I said, hanger strikes, people. And if not cured, it can get bad. I don’t really eat almond butter with my lunch, since my lunch is usually team savory. Sometimes, I’ll bring some dessert, and most likely that dessert involves almond butter in some shape or form. But most of the time, since I have only a couple of minutes to eat, there’s no dessert. I have to eat quickly, sad about the fact that I don’t have any AB to accompany me before I move on to my next class.
4 P.M. – Snack
Who doesn’t love a good PB&J? Unfortunately, I don’t (#sorrynotsorry). But I do love myself a good almond butter and banana toast! In my opinion, there is no better combination. The sweetness of the ripe banana paired with almond butter makes the perfect snack, and the perfect pre-workout if I decide to do that later. Craving satisfied.
8 P.M. – Dinner
Like lunch, dinner is usually a savory bowl made up of veggies, a protein, and a grain. But we all have those lazy nights, where truly all we want and have time for is a bowl of cereal with milk, and maybe some fruit on the side. The life of a college student, right? On those lazy nights, I’ll get myself more almond butter by using it as a dip for some apple slices, and maybe ill even put a tablespoon in a smoothie, if it’s a really lazy night. Other than that, if it’s a savory meal, I’ll try to incorporate it in some way or another if I want a snack before bed that day.
10:30 P.M. – Before Bed
I’m not the type of person who gets hungry before bed, especially if I’m busy studying or finishing up an assignment. But if I am, I honor my hunger and give my body what it wants. And you guessed it: it always wants some of that AB. Apples and almond butter are the perfect snack for late hours. And I admit, sometimes I go extremely simple and eat a spoonful straight from the jar. True life.
3 A.M. – In My Dreams
Oh, you didn’t think it ended before bed, did you?
It’s a beautiful and stressful day, especially when you’re stuck in a situation where you can’t get your hands on some almond butter. But overall, it’s a good, sweet, and an amazing life that I wouldn’t trade for anything. And if you haven’t tried almond butter, please do me a favor and get a spoonful in today…but don’t say I didn’t warn you.
