A few years ago, frozen yogurt became the cool, new trend. Everyone was going to hang out at the fro-yo place down the street after school because it was the place to be, if ya know what I mean.

As the trendiness has begun to fade, I have taken it upon myself to remind the world why frozen yogurt replaced ice cream in the first place – because it’s way more fun. Here’s why:

1. Unlimited samples

Sample cups are one of the greatest inventions of all time. The first thing I do when I walk into a frozen yogurt place is go straight to the cash register and ask for a sample cup (yes, I’m that person, and I’m not ashamed).

You can eat twice the frozen yogurt that you pay for just by sampling. Plus, at frozen yogurt places, you serve yourself the samples and avoid the ice cream shop employee glaring at you after handing you your fifth sample spoon of mint chocolate chip ice cream while you try to decide whether you actually like it or not.

2. Option to be spontaneous

Can’t decide what toppings you want? Get them all. Can’t decide what flavors you want? Get them all. (After sampling them multiple times, of course).

The greatest part is that you don’t have to make your decision until you put your cup on the scale. This gives you way more time than at an ice cream place where you have to decide your mix-ins at the beginning and live with the regret of not adding those M&Ms to your ice cream selection.

There have been many instances where as I wait in line to pay for my fro-yo, I’ve gone back to grab an extra scoop of chocolate chips. Why? Because I can.

Check out these genius topping combinations to take your fro-yo game to the next level.

3. No flavor limitations

No more having to pay for an extra scoop just because you like two flavors equally. You shouldn’t have to choose. This is America, and you should have the freedom to enjoy one, two, or nine flavors in your cup at the same time. The more the merrier.

4. Funky flavors

No more confinement to the same old vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry – frozen yogurt prides itself on having unique and diverse flavors that rotate weekly/monthly. With options like Raspberry Lemonade Sorbet, Vanilla Chai Latte, and Cookie Butter, you cannot go wrong, and your taste buds will thank you for shaking it up.

5. It’s better for ya

When comparing fro-yo to ice cream, you have to throw in the health benefits here too because frozen yogurt is technically healthier than ice cream. Frozen yogurt has fewer calories and half the fat of ice cream, which helps me rationalize the exorbitant amount of chocolate chips piled high on top of my yogurt.

For the health nuts out there, here are some healthy topping ideas.

6. Levers are fun to push

Who doesn’t like to push the levers and see the frozen yogurt swirl around the cup? When the evil movie characters pull levers to execute their diabolical plans, have you ever thought to yourself, “Man, I’d love to get the chance to push a lever like that someday?” Is that just me? Ok, never mind. Moving on.

7. Big cup – no judgment

When there’s only one cup size (gigantic), there is no room for judgment. I take the “one cup fits all” idea to be a challenge. How much frozen yogurt can I pack into that cup? Probably enough to feed two tiny children for a whole week, but that’s beside the point.

Getting to choose how much or little frozen yogurt you want is one of the most liberating feelings on the planet.

Hopefully this list is giving you the motivation to get in your car and go to the nearest frozen yogurt place to remind yourself just how much more fun frozen yogurt is than ice cream. When you do, check out the secrets to making the best frozen yogurt concoction of your life here.
