Being sick sucks. But being sick at college is the absolute worst. So here are some tips to get rid of that awful cold and start functioning like a normal human being again.

The Killer X from Liquiteria

This hot juice will do serious damage to a persistent cough. The blend of green apple, lemon, and a double serving of ginger also contains a supplement called Immunity Now (which sounds impressive, so it must work). There is also the option to add cayenne, which makes this drink very spicy, but if you are up for the challenge you should go for it because spice is extremely helpful when battling a cold.

Dragon’s Breath Booster Shot from Organic Avenue

Don’t let the cute, tiny bottle fool you: this stuff is better than any cold medicine I have ever tried. The shot is intended for those with the flu and definitely clears any congestion you may have. The name is telling of how spicy the shot is because it contains a concentrated dose of ginger, lemon and cayenne. My mouth was burning but the sinus clearing effect was so worth it.

Matzo Ball Soup from Katz Delicatessen

Yes, you know it from Meg Ryan’s (ahem) iconic scene in “When Harry Met Sally” and it is a tourist trap.  But when you are sick, skip the famous pastrami and those long lines, and get your matzo ball soup delivered. A rich chicken broth compliments the light matzo ball and it is now something that I will forever crave when I am sick.

Tom Kha Gai Soup from Catetasia

This popular lunch spot for NYU students offers a soup that is heaven for anyone suffering a cold. The light soup contains chicken coconut broth, chili, lemongrass and mushrooms, and will help boost your dwindling energy to get through your afternoon classes. The combination of ingredients also packs in the nutrients to get you over the flu.

The Doctor Is In Tea at The Bean

Although The Bean is known for their coffee and ridiculously good Dirty Chai, this tea should be served by the gallon during flu season. The naturally decaffeinated rooibos tea is full of spices that fight the common cold including ginger, saffron, black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, peppermint, safflowers fennel and licorice.

Feel better!
