5 Ways to Cure Your Nasty Cold With Help From Beyonce

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at U Mich chapter.

Runny nose, pounding head, painful cough. You woke up like this? NOT flawless. Being sick in college seems to be about as frequent as the number of times Beyonce Instagrams a day — AKA maybe too often. But it’s time to stand up to the common cold with a little bit of inspiration from the Queen herself. With these helpful tips, you will be cured and waking up flawless in no time.

Drink LOTS of fluids.

Don’t underestimate the power of staying hydrated. Drink lots of water, hot tea, and orange juice. This is what type of tea you should be drinking according to how you’re feeling.

#SpoonTip: Add some honey and lemon to your tea to soothe your throat even more. Drink up so that you can confidently repeat after B when she says, “I’ve been drankin’.”

Sleep, sleep, and more sleep.

As a college student, it seems nearly impossible to get a good night’s sleep, but when you have a cold, your body needs rest so quit those all-nighters ASAP. Try to get at least 8 hours of sleep, use an extra pillow to help relieve your stuffy nose, and you may or may not wake up looking like Beyonce. No promises though.

Increase your vitamin C intake.

Although it’s a controversial topic, vitamin C has been known to decrease the duration and severity of all colds and Emergen-C is practically the Beyonce of cold prevention because it’s the BEST. Add a packet of Emergen-C to your orange juice for extra help, or get creative and try one of these Emergen-C recipes to get your daily dose (yes, you can make guacamole with Emergen-C, this is not a drill). But be careful, orange juice that’s high in sugar could make your sickness even worse.

Eat a balanced diet.

When you’re sick you might want to reach for comfort in that gooey slice of pizza but don’t. When you have a cold, your body needs nutritious foods more than ever so that your immune system can keep fighting. Chicken noodle soup is a staple and has actually been proven to cure colds. Bottom line: more veggies, fewer cookies. These are the best food to eat when you’re sick.

Bundle up.

Cold weather doesn’t actually cause a cold, BUT it has been proven that staying warm can help cure your cold. If your school basically only has two seasons (summer and winter… Shout out to Ann Arbor) you can stay warmer and show off some extra school spirit with one of these cool college beanies. Or you could try and rock a white fur coat like Bey – now that would be a campus fashion statement.

Follow all of these steps and you should be working it like B in no time. Or use this trick to fight your cold before it even starts. Go ahead and bump “Survivor” because you are BACK.
