5 Reasons Women Should Be Reading Men’s Health Magazines

At first, I didn’t think to read or research into any magazines such as Men’s Health or Men’s Fitness, because duh they are written for men to read, but then my personal trainer told me to check them out for new workout moves and information. As I did, I realized, a lot of the information, not only the workouts that they demonstrate and explain, is really helpful for myself, as a woman, and I figured, if I can learn from them, then so should anyone else. Men’s health magazines have actually made my fitness regiment harder, along with other aspects of my life which sometimes you just need but are scared to look for.

Workouts

One of the first one’s I looked into and followed on Facebook was Men’s Health. They not only have great articles about different types of workouts which are published every day, but also a lot of the time, they will have videos to demonstrate the workout moves or even live sessions that you can watch and workout right then and there. The videos are awesome because when a workout is described in text it’s hard to fully picture the form and how the move is done. The workouts are really innovative, and they post new exercises every day that always end up kicking my butt but I feel awesome for trying them anyway.

Turning towards others, like Men’s Fitness, the magazine is great for exercises as well. I know not all of you guys want to necessarily bulk up, so they also have home weight loss programs using just body weight exercises, which are great for those who aren’t looking to build more muscle but shape and tone their bodies. It also breaks down its training into categories depending on if you want to focus on endurance, muscle building, cardio or just want some workout tips. The fitness blogs and magazines for men are great because they have different types of exercises many haven’t thought to try before and we as women have the same capabilities we just can’t be afraid to try because it’s targeted towards men.

Nutrition

Also, another one of my favorite aspects, because I love food and well who doesn’t, is the videos that Men’s Health has that demonstrate how to make protein packed meals. After a workout, you always need protein and these videos are cool because it’s not just boring meals like grilled chicken, they take cool recipes and show you how to make them. One of my favorites is the protein packed chicken enchiladas from Men’s Health.

We write them, so let’s read them

Furthermore, as I was doing research on different men’s health magazines, I noticed that a lot of the articles are written by women. Thus, the audience should be women as well. When it comes to fitness, health and fun new ways to be healthy, there is no difference between men and women, our bodies are built the same in that sense, and if women can write about it, then we can definitely try it out as well.

“X” Rated

Okay, time to get a little intimate. Another interesting part of the men’s health magazines, is how they focus a lot on relationships, mostly “X” rated things, a lot of the time we just talk to our friends about this, but sometimes it’s scary to mention anything or not know something. Do not be scared to look at these articles. It seems intimidating, but you are just as much a part of the intimacy as the man is, and if he can learn and read about it, so can you.

Intimidation Factor

Sometimes, we don’t read things if they are targeted to one gender, but try reading a men’s magazine sometimes or men try reading women’s magazines. They share a lot that sometimes I think we are afraid to talk about together. We might be different surrounding a lot of aspects of life, but exercise and nutrition are key elements and the men’s magazines have really helped me find new ways to be healthy. I read about 5-6 of the articles on Facebook a day because they have new and innovative workout ideas that I love. At first I was intimidated because they were speaking to men, but then I realized I could accomplish the workouts they demonstrate too. The articles may be speaking to men, but this doesn’t mean us women can’t take away from them as well.

I am currently pursuing a marketing major and an english minor at PC. I am very excited about being a part of Spoon University as I am very into healthy ways to eat and live while living on campus.
