5 Food Trends You’ve Probably Been Seeing Everywhere

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at U Penn chapter.

Various forms of social media make tracking new food trends pretty easy. Last year ramen burgers and Momofuku blew up our Instagram news feeds. This year, new trends are popping up everywhere (your friend probably snap storied it yesterday).

1. An egg on everything

Eggs are being added to everything you can eat: salads, pizza, toast, sushi. Honestly though, it makes a dish look pretty and adds an interesting taste, so I’m not complaining.

 2. Avocado toast

Social media has always loved avocados, and now it loves smashing them and putting them on toast. Add hot pepper flakes plus some sea salt and you’re golden.

 3. Avocado toast with an egg

Since this essentially combines the two hottest food trends, it must get its own category. Instagram is actually overflowing with this new trend, probably because the poached egg avo toast combo taste great and makes a great picture.

 4. Salted caramel anything

Whether it’s froyo, cheesecake, hot chocolate or actual salted caramels, this trend has taken off. No complaints here; this hot new flavor tastes pretty damn good.

 5. Uni

This one really intrigues me. In my opinion, uni (which is actually sea urchin) looks pretty gross, but since so many people have been raving about its unique flavor, it had to make the list.
