There’s nothing worse than taking a bad shot that doesn’t sit well in your stomach. Over the years, I’ve gained some insider information on which chasers you should be avoiding so that doesn’t happen. Luckily for you, I’ve decided to share my findings. Do yourself a favor and don’t chase your shots with these five drinks.

Or any other acidic chaser, for that matter. Drinking alcohol already causes your stomach to produce more acid than usual, so the combination spells trouble for your tum.

2. Energy Drinks

I’m sure your mother has already warned you about this one. Mixing stimulants (caffeine) and depressants (alcohol), which have directly opposite effects, confuses your nervous system and could potentially cause heart problems. Energy drinks also dehydrate you, making your hangover a hell of a lot worse. So maybe skip the Red Bull and vodka this time.

3. Sugary Drinks

One soda already has more than enough sugar for your daily recommended intake, but when you go out and drink you’re not going to have just one. Consuming a lot of sugar can lead to various health problems and, though I haven’t conducted a formal experiment, I can tell you from personal experience that sugary mixed drinks won’t help your hangover.

4. Milk

There are many dairy-based drinks, but if they’re not made correctly the milk can curdle. Even worse, if you’re chasing with milk rather than making a cocktail, it can curdle in your stomach and bad things will happen.

5. More Alcohol

Whether you’re chasing a shot with beer or a mixed drink, mixing alcohol is never a good idea.
