It’s the start of a new semester here at Ole Miss, and it’s exciting and terrifying all at the same time. We’re all thinking about which of our classes we need to study the most for, whether or not we’ll make new friends, if we’ll learn how to be more adult-ish, and how we can make our time at Ole Miss count.

If you’re looking for something awe-inspiring to do with your time and your love of food, applying for Spoon University may just be exactly what you’re looking for.

So what is this Spoon thing that you’ve seen around campus? Spoon University is the gathering of writers, photographers, videographers, marketers, graphic designers, and foodies on Ole Miss’ campus.

Here are three reasons why the Ole Miss chapter of Spoon University may just be the perfect fit for you:

1. FOMO is real.

Spoon University is something that you should be afraid of missing out on. You’ll always have a group message full of people who are down to eat with you wherever and whenever. How can you possibly rank the best burgers and coffee spots in Oxford if you haven’t actually tried all of them? Spoon is a great way to get involved and make those lasting college friendships that you hear so much about. Come bond over food with us. Trust me, you don't want to miss this.

2. You get published on an actual website.

This is so much bigger than that blog you started in high school that was only read by your parents and coworkers. Spoon University has over 1.5 million likes on Facebook, 242k followers on Instagram, and 14.5k followers on Twitter. That means your article has the potential to go viral.

Picture this: you gain so much traction on Spoon that your work could wind up on BuzzFeed, Yahoo Food, or the Huffington Post Food. This will be something you can report back to your family when they ask about last night’s frat party.

3. It will help you get a real adult job.

Having work published on your resume can boost your chances of landing that dream job. You’re adding to your portfolio while also being introduced to so many networking opportunities. You’re showing employers that you were part of something incredible and that you practiced and improved your skills in writing, editing, communication, and so many other things.

Help run our chapter’s social media and you can impress companies with the experience. Come and be part of our world to help yourself out when it’s time to join the real world.

I could give you a millions of reasons why joining Spoon University at Ole Miss will be the best decision that you make all semester, but why spend your time taking my word for it when you can experience it for yourself? I mean, food and Ole Miss (two of my personal favorite things), what more motivation do you need?
