20 Times Fast Food Creations Went Way, Way Too Far

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Texas chapter.

The hybrid food trend has taken over the dining scene with restaurants and bakeries everywhere creating food mashups, such as the Cronut, the ramen burger, the sushiritto, and, most recently, the cruffin. Some, of course, are more successful than others.

Fast food chains were fast to jump aboard the hybrid hype, creating various food mashups from the infamous KFC Double Down to various Nerd slushies at Sonic.

But American fast food locations are not the only ones creating fast food hybrids; many international fast food locations have introduced some pretty awful fast food mashups, including the hot dog stuffed pizza crust, which is available at Pizza Hut UK.

Read on to discover past and present fast food mashups that will turn your stomach upside down.

Burger King: Pizza-Size Burger

This is next-level family-style dining. The entire pizza burger consists of four Whopper burger patties sliced into six sections with a whopping (pun intended) 2,520 calories and 144 grams of fat. This pizza burger is only available at the BK Whopper Bar in Times Square. The Big Apple, amirite?

Burger King: Kuro Burger

Available in Japan, the Kuro, meaning black, burger contains a black bun, cheese colored with bamboo charcoal, and squid ink ketchup. Creative.

Carl’s Jr. & Hardee’s: Most American Thickburger

Introducing the Most American Thickburger. In addition to American cheese, pickles, red onions, lettuce and tomatoes, this half-pound burger is topped with a sliced hot dog and kettle cooked potato chips. Because, why not? And it only has 1,030 calories. Win-win.

CiCi’s: Mac ‘n Cheese Pizza

This dish is having an identity crisis. Pasta? Pizza? Pasta? Pizza? Both. The pizza is topped with mac ‘n cheese and then topped with more cheese. Cheese overload.

Cinnabon: The Pizzabon

fast food

It’s basically a pizza in roll form. Not sure if this is genius or pointless.

Denny’s: Fried Cheese Melt

fast food

What would make a grilled cheese sandwich better? Fried cheese, of course. This item is no longer on the menu, but you can definitely whip this up in your college kitchen after a late-night trip to the dining hall.

Dunkin’ Donuts: Bacon and Eggs Donut Sandwich

Can’t decide between sweet or savory? Luckily Dunkin’ Donuts has made the decision much easier for you with its bacon and egg donut sandwich.

KFC: Double Down

The Double Down uses two chicken filets to sandwich together bacon, cheese and sauce. This fast food creation is no longer available in KFC, but support for its revival is strong.

KFC: Double Down Dog

Because the Double Down wasn’t enough, KFC introduced the Double Down Dog. Yum.

KFC: Mac and Cheese Bites

KFC fried mac ‘n cheese bites might melt our hearts, but they will also induce a heart attack (most likely). These bites are only available at KFC locations in the Philippines.

KFC: Fish Donuts

Before the Cronut, there was the fonut, the fish donut. And it is only available in Singapore. Yes, it’s fried fish shaped in a circular disc.

Pizza Hut: Hot Dog Bites Pizza

Pigs in a blanket and pizza? Pizza Hut just announced the launch of the hot dog bites pizza, which will be available in the US on June 18.

Pizza Hut: Hot Dog Stuffed Crust Pizza

Probably one of the most bizarre fast food mash ups is the hot dog stuffed crust pizza. It is available in the UK and the UK only.

Pizza Hut: Cheeseburger Pizza

Not a fan of the hot dog stuffed pizza crust? It’s okay. Pizza Hut has you covered with the cheeseburger pizza. May you never have to choose between a cheese burger and a cheese pizza ever again. Like the hot dog pizza, the cheeseburger pizza is also only available in the UK.

Popeyes: Chicken Waffle Tenders

fast food

Popeyes marinates chicken breast strips in Louisiana seasonings, dips them in a waffle batter and then fries ’em up real nice. It’s the latest in finger food: chicken waffle tenders.

Sonic: Popping Candy Slush

fast food

Sonic makes it possible to drink your favorite hard candies. Whether it’s Jolly Ranchers or Nerds, Sonic has you covered with candy-themed slushies. Because what could be better than sippable candy?

Taco Bell: Doritos Locos Tacos

fast food

Taco Bell has made it easy for you to eat one of your favorite snacks as a meal with its Doritos shell tacos. Why? Taco Bell, you don’t have to make everything into a taco.

Taco Bell: Waffle Taco

fast food

Taco Bell is not exactly known for their Grade A meat. And now they want to put it in a waffle? Another breakfast mash up that we are happy to deny: the waffle taco.

White Castle: Chicken Rings

fast food

In an attempt to combine an onion ring and a chicken nugget, White Castle introduced the chicken rings. Why, oh why, do you need to make chicken into the shape of a doughnut? And, more importantly, how do you shape the chicken like that?

7 Eleven: Loaded Doritos

fast food

Shout out to all my die hard cheese fans – this one is for you. 7 Eleven serves nacho cheese inside of Doritos. Because why not pollute our air with lactose-induced farts?
