Have you ever thought of becoming vegan? A vegan diet follows strict guidelines of not eating or using any animal products including dairy, eggs, and honey. Talk about commitment. Clearly living this lifestyle is hard, but it is possible and some very well known people do choose to commit. Here’s a list of a few musicians who’ve taken the plunge.
1. Flo Rida
Flo Rida made the announcement in 2013. When he appeared on The Arsenio Hall Late Night Show, he said he has been feeling more great and energetic since switching. Clearly, he’s been having good feelings about his new diet.
2. Stevie Wonder
We just called to say Stevie Wonder is a vegan. While going on a carpool karaoke with James Corden, Stevie Wonder revealed that he’s been living on this diet for almost 2 years now. He misses chicken but he’s always finding new alternatives to maintain such a lifestyle.
3. Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande is a strong supporter of animal rights, so it’s a clear choice why she decided to commit to this lifestyle.
4. Usher
Sadly, the “Without You” singer is no longer a vegan, but we’ll give him credits for trying. In 2013, Usher claimed that he stopped because it was too expensive. Aww, poor Usher. We could have helped you out by giving you a list of great meatless restaurants.
5. Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus stopped eating animal products after the death of her dog Floyd. It took her a while to announce her change in lifestyle, but is now ready to be held accountable and to be a role model for the lifestyle.
6. Jason Mraz
There’s only one way, to say, three words, for you: Mraz is vegan. One of his signature dishes is the “Chocomole”, a vegan chocolate avocado pudding. But, here at Spoon, we think the all natural double chocolate avocado fudge cookies are just as good.
7. Gwen Stefani
It’s no doubt that Gwen Stefani is a health junkie. She believes that eating right and working out is the way to go.
8. Ellie Goulding
Anything could happen and yes, going vegan is one of them. It’s a challenge but it’s not impossible. Part of Ellie Goulding’s diet is consuming green juices at least once a day.
9. Carrie Underwood
Be blown away by Carrie Underwood. She’s been a vegetarian for a long time and now, considers herself a “practical vegan”. That means she strives to be eat all natural as best she can, but once in awhile, if she’s out and receives a dish that has some animal by-product in it, like a little bit of cheese, she won’t send it back.
10. Alanis Morissette
Alanis considers herself 80% vegan and 20% whatever her body needs. Listening to your body is definitely important, because sometimes, eating healthy depends on your body type.
11. Ruben Studdard
The American Idol Winner Season 2 started off as a vegetarian, then switched to veganism. He has lost 100lbs since the switch and he still enjoys vegan Soul food.
12. Thom Yorke
After hearing the song “Meat is Murder” by The Smiths, this singer of the band Radiohead became a vegan.
13. Prince
Prince was an outspoken vegan. In 2006 he was named “PETA’s Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity” and wrote a song on why we should not eat animals called “Animal Kingdom”.
14. Paul McCartney
Paul McCartney has been a vegetarian since 1975 and has been promoting the lifestyle throughout his career. Paul McCartney challenged his staff to follow his strict vegan diet for a week and he promotes plant based diets during his concerts.
15. Colbie Caillat
Such a lifestyle is never easy and Colbie Caillat knows it. She considers herself to be 95% vegan or what she calls a “vegetarian vegan”. One day she hopes to start a vegan clothing line.
