Everybody knows that in the summertime Texas can get very, very hot. And the booming city of Austin is no exception. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to stay cool. Our favorite method, of course, is eating a decadent frozen dessert.
Here are some that are not to be missed.
1. Chocolate Gelato with Candied Orange Peel – Dulce Neve
For delicious gelato that comes in an array of innovative flavors, head to Dulce Neve. Some of their must-try flavors include chocolate orange, stracciatella, bourbon whiskey and pecan, tiramisu, and hazelnut.
2. S’mores Ice Cream Rolls – Ice Scrapers
Thai food is great for dinner or lunch, but what we’re really interested in is eating it for dessert. Ice Scrapers is a food truck serving Thai ice cream, which is a type of ice cream that is formed into thin scrolls. A unique and tasty ice cream experience.
3. Cake Shake – Holy Cacao
Many of the best desserts are ones that combine two already existing treats. And the cake shakes at Holy Cacao do just that. If you like ice cream and you like cake, there isn’t really much to dislike about their hybrid.
4. Birthday Cake Ice Cream Sandwich – Launderette
Nothing quite like Funfetti to transport you back to your childhood. Grab a birthday cake ice cream sandwich from Launderette for a delicious taste of nostalgia. We also reccommend the profiteroles.
5. Afternoon Delight – Bananarchy
Bananarchy specializes in frozen bananas coated with a sweet dip and rolled in indulgent toppings. And it’s fruit, so you don’t have to feel guilty. Try their signature Afternoon Delight, a banana dipped in chocolate, peanut butter, and vanilla coating and then rolled in nuts and graham crackers.
6. SNÖ – Sno Labs
Shaved milk ice isn’t quite ice cream, and it’s not quite shaved ice. But regardless of what it is, people can’t seem to stop eating it. Sno Labs makes this sno in five different flavors and offers an extensive list of toppings.
7. Date Night Churro – Churro Co.
Maybe you’ve had a churro before, but have you ever had a churro a la mode? At Churro Co., churros get new life, as they are coated in graham crackers, sage sugar, and even popcorn sugar. And they’re topped with the thing that makes everything better: ice cream.
8. Roasted Banana & Brown Sugar Milkshake – 24 Diner
Just as its name suggests, 24 Diner is a diner that is always open. It’s the perfect place to go when you’re craving eggs or french toast or milkshake in the middle of the night. And the roasted banana brown sugar shake never disappoints.
9. Rainbow Shaved Ice – SnoBeach
The best dessert is the kind that turns your tongue a different color, and we can count on that at SnoBeach. This shaved ice is a local favorite, and there are tons of flavors to choose from. Our favorite is the rainbow, both for the flavor and for the Instagram potential.
10. Banana Split – Sway
The banana split is an ice cream classic. And at Sway, this classic dessert gets a delicious and sophisticated upgrade. We’re talking caramel-cashew-swirl ice cream, black sesame brownie bites, and drunken cherries.
11. Popcorn & A Movie – Swift’s Attic
If you like caramel, root beer, popcorn, ice cream, or any combination of those things, you should probably go to Swift’s Attic. Like, now. This epic dessert is made of homemade candy bars, caramel corn, and salted popcorn ice cream. The ultimate frozen salty sweet dessert.
12. Snow – Snow Monster
At Snow Monster, snow is a lot more than a weather forecast. It’s a cross between ice cream and shaved ice that’s refreshing and highly addictive. We recommend the matcha or the milk tea, topped with mochi and fresh fruit. Or try a snow waffle.
13. Red Velvet Ice Cream Sandwich – Coolhaus
Who doesn’t love ice cream sandwiches? Certainly not anyone that we associate with. Get your ice cream sandwich fix at Coolhaus. The handheld treats are so good that you might just inhale your wrapper along with your sandwich, but good thing those are edible, too.
14. Unicorn Poop – Sweet Ritual
Vegan ice cream often gets a bad rep, but the genius ice cream makers at Sweet Ritual are helping to change that. The ice cream have a variety of different bases, from cashew to almond to coconut and they’re all just as good as their dairy-filled counterparts. Our favorite flavor is Unicorn Poop.
