11 of the Most Outrageous Gold Foiled Food and What Happens After You Eat Them

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at FSU chapter.

It’s no secret that gold food is a huge culinary trend right now. But, what happens after you consume all that glittery goodness? First off, the gold that you’re eating isn’t the same gold found in your jewelry. Edible gold has to be 22 to 24 karats, which is safe to consume. It’s most likely that the gold you eat won’t be digested, but will simply pass through you as waste. So, yes, you will, at some point, poop gold. Check out the list below to find out what outrageous dishes you can devour to make every part of you shine.

1. Ice Cream

The aptly named Golden Opulence Sundae is served at Serendipity 3 in New York City. This insane treat will cost you $1,000 and has to be ordered 48 hours in advance. By the way, it’s 2 Chainz approved.

2. Grilled Cheese

Serendipity 3 is back at it again with an abnormally decadent take on this classic comfort food. At $214, this is the world record holder for the most expensive sandwich in the world

3. Pizza

This pizza can be found in NYC at Industry Kitchen. Would you drop $2,000 to try this?

4. Doughnut

You’ll have to travel south to Miami Beach to try Manila Social Club’s $100 doughnut creation. Fun fact: It’s purple on the inside.

5. Burger

Would you believe that this insane burger was actually served out of a food truck? Dubai, being the location it was sold, might make that more believable. Apparently, it took around four weeks to develop this $63 burger. Talk about bougie.

6. Sushi

Unlike most others on this list, this delicacy actually won’t break the bank. This sushi from Katsumidori Sushi in the Prince Waikiki Hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii will only run you $6.50.

7. Eclair

These pretty pastries can be found in London at Maitre Choux. The gold option is flavored with hazelnut and milk chocolate, making it taste as good as it looks. To get your hands on one of these, it will run you a little over $7.

8. Macaron

You can get your Blair Waldorf on with these French beauties. These are the creation of a collaboration between the famous French pastry shop, Ladurée and fashion house Marni. Underneath all that gold is a box of chocolate macarons that will run you $100 per box.

9. Cappuccino

The way the gold sheets hover over this drink make it look extra appetizing. You’ll have no problem waking up with this $20 cappuccino from The Armani Hotel Dubai

10. Bacon

This creation may not be as aesthetically pleasing as others, however, for bacon lovers, this is the ultimate treat. Located in New York, Baconery sells their 23-karat gold bacon for $40.

11. Popcorn

For $5 you can eat one piece of this popcorn. One, as in one kernel will cost you $5. Berco’s Popcorn is based in Chicago and has dubbed this concoction to be Billion Dollar Popcorn. The largest size of this popcorn costs $2,500 and just like no. 1 on this list, this treat is also 2 Chainz approved.

If you add all of these items up they total to just over $6,000. Good thing it’s recommended that gold is only consumed in small quantities. So, that can be your excuse to not ball out instead of lack of funds. *shrugs*
