While cooking eggs in a pan is probably ideal, microwaves work surprisingly well and get the job done in less than 5 minutes with minimal cleanup. Serve them scrambled or poached on toast for an easy breakfast on-the-go.


Microwave Scrambled Eggs

Prep time: 2 minutes
Cook time: 2 minutes
Total time: 5 minutes

Servings: 1

2 eggs
2 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons shredded cheese (optional)
Salt, pepper and spices to taste


1. Combine eggs and milk in a small bowl or mug and whisk with a fork.

2. Microwave for 45 seconds on 80% power. Stir.
3. Microwave for 30 more seconds or until set.
4. Stir in shredded cheese and season with salt, pepper and spices to taste.

Microwave Poached Eggs

Prep time: 1 minute
Cook time: 3 minutes
Total time: 4 minutes

1 egg
Boiling water
2 tablespoons shredded cheese (optional)
Salt, pepper, and spices to taste


1. Pour boiling water into a small bowl or mug.
2. Crack egg carefully into water. Let sit for 2 minutes.

3. Microwave for three to four 15-second increments (a total of 1 minute if you want a hard yolk).

4. Remove from water with spoon.
5. Eat alone or serve on toast with cheese, salt and pepper.
