Every new year, people everywhere become motivated to get healthy, but soon after, we surrender to the all-powerful carb: white rice. White rice is easy to make and goes with almost everything, and more importantly, it is so very good. How are we supposed to avoid the easy-to-make staple that is white rice? The answer is simple: short grain brown rice!

Brown rice has more vitamins, minerals, fiber, and all the goods  to be more nutritious and healthy than white rice. So, why don't we eat it more often? Compared to white rice, it is harder to cook brown rice perfectly. Combine all the ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil over high heat. Then, reduce the heat to maintain a simmer, cover the pot with a lid, and cook for 50 minutes.

Do not touch the pot! If you lift the lid or stir the rice, the rice will not cook evenly.

Step 3

Remove the pan from the heat and let the rice sit for 10 more minutes.

Again, no peeking or stirring!

Step 4

Now you can finally poke the rice with a fork and serve.
