Prove How Much You Love to Eat With These DIY Food Pins

On the next rainy day you find yourself with nothing to do, try making cool food-themed pins. Design and create these pins with all of the creative authority you can ask for. Can't find a Swedish fish pin? Make your own. The possibilities for the hungry crafter are endless. 

Bonus: I found all of the materials to make these at my local craft store. Read on to learn how to make these adorable pins on your own. These are homemade gifts that your friends might actually like and wear. 

DIY Food Pins

  • Prep Time: 30 mins
  • Cook Time: 4 mins
  • Total Time: 34 mins
  • Servings: 6
Ingredients
  • Glue gun
  • Shrink-film paper
  • Colored pencils or sharpies
  • Scissors
  • Baking Tray
  • Parchment paper or medium weight cardboard
  • Pin backings
  • Glitter and/or clear nail polish optional

Step 1

Pre-heat the oven to 300˚-350F.˚ Choose and sketch out your designs. Avocado? Soda can? Create what you want! This step is optional, you can trace over these later. Make sure whatever shape you choose is at lease 50X the size you want it to be, because the shrink film can become smaller than anticipated and will definitely be smaller than the original design.

Step 2

Trace or start drawing your design on the rough side of the shrink film with colored pencil or sharpie, non permanent ink or regular pencil will not show up in the final product.

Color in your designs fully.

Cut out your designs and put them on the baking sheet.

Step 5

Bake in the oven for 3-4 minutes, or however long the film instructs. It might start to smell like plastic a little bit.

Next, take your charms out of the oven and let them cool.

Step 7

Once cool, glue your pin backings to the rough side of the pin.

Step 8

You can buy pin backings at a craft store or you can also use push pins and earring backings, or also safety pins.

Step 9

Wait for the glue to try and you are done! Start modeling your creations.

Try making a pizza slice and an apple.

Or french fries and a croissant.
