The C-Store: Brandeis’s own convenience store. All colleges have one. And though they may be called something different on each campus they all provide college students with a selection of classic (typically overpriced) food choices and a selection of some more unusual choices. Like novelty items, but food…

It doesn’t take a long time in the C-Store to discover these weirder picks—some are almost as unnatural as hating chocolate. ALMOST.

1. Pickle Flavored Potato Chips

Admittedly, these may not be as odd as one might think (given that we found 2 brands of them) but they’re still pretty odd. While pickles and chips both make good snacking options, combined, probably not so much.

2. Chiles & Cherries in Chocolate

Cherries good, chilies good, chocolate, good. Combined, it’s well, interesting…

3. Crystallized Ginger in Chocolate

Same goes for the ginger and chocolate as did for chilies and cherry chocolate above. Given that ginger can help with stomach aches and chocolate… is…chocolate, this could be a good finals week snack.

4. Cheddar Horseradish Chips

Cheddar potato chips are good. Add horseradish to the mix, probably not so much. A foodstuff that has been known to induce tears is probably not the best idea for a snack that can only be eaten handfuls at a time.

5. Pepperoni Pizza Crackers

Pizza can and has take many forms: rolls, bagels, hot pockets. But cracker form isn’t something that’s really expected. If you’re crazy about pizza then maybe this another way to live out your obsession.

6. Bean Chips

I’ve seen tortilla chips, potato chips, corn chips, pita chips, etc. But I have never seen bean chips (and by this I mean chips made out of beans) anywhere but the C-store.

Ok…I just tried the black bean chips, they aren’t bad. They’re kind of…bland. But with a bit of a black beany taste. They’re good if you want a final weeks snack that isn’t super bad for you.

7. Spicy Thai Chile Tuna Medley

Maybe I’m just a canned tuna fish purist, but the only things I think it should be mixed with is mayo and maybe some chopped celery. Save the fancy stuff for the fresh tuna. (Though apparently others disagree.)
