I Tried Alexa’s 7-Minute Workout, Here’s How It Works

I hate going to the gym, and quite honestly, I haven’t been to one in years. So when I discovered that Alexa can be your training coach, I decided to give Alexa’s 7-minute workout a shot.

Getting Started

“Alexa, start 7-minute workout.”

Boom. The program begins. This updated version of the workout keeps track of how many workouts you’ve completed and where you left off if you stop in the middle of a workout.

If you’re not interested in hearing her talk, just say “Alexa, ready to begin” and she’ll skip her spiel.

The Workout

The actual workout is the same each time and consists of a set of scientifically proven exercises designed to lower stress levels, improve your metabolism, improve your energy, and remove fat. It starts with jumping jacks and ends with side planks.

Alexa introduces each exercise and starts the timer when you say “Ready.” If you’re not sure how to do something, say “Help” and she’ll explain, or you can refer to tutorials in the Alexa Companion app.

At the end of each exercise, Alexa praises your hard work with compliments like, “If I had eyes, I would say you look jacked.” She’s also says other gems like, “Stiff as a board and high as a super hero.”

Have a chair or bench nearby; a few of the exercises require a chair. No, a rolling chair won’t work, unless your goal is to hurt yourself.

If you need a break, ignore Alexa when she asks if you’re ready; she’ll exit the app after several seconds. When you’re ready to continue, say “Alexa, start 7-minute workout. Ready.” and she’ll start the workout where you left off.

The best part of this workout is that you can pick your own soundtrack. Have Alexa play your preferred playlist before you start the workout, and your music will continue to play in the background.

Overall, I liked using Alexa’s 7-minute workout. It was helpful to have someone (or something) guiding me through the exercises and keeping time. Plus, I didn’t have to leave the comforts of my home. Would you give it a try?
