Hi! My name is Sophia Koman, and I am currently a sophomore at Cornell University. I am majoring in communication and minoring in business. I am originally from Baltimore, Maryland, and I have lived there for my entire life. I graduated from McDonogh School in 2023, and some of my activities included Vice President of the Honor Council, Editor-in-Chief of the yearbook, President and Founder of the Baking for Charity Club, Varsity Tennis Captain, and a member of the Cum Laude Society.
During my free time, I enjoy playing tennis and performing in musical theater. I have been playing tennis since I was four years old and have played in various USTA tournaments and tennis teams throughout my life, including McDonogh’s Varsity tennis team for 4 years. In addition to being a seasoned tennis player, I have also been performing in musical theater for the majority of my life. Some of my favorite roles have been Fairy Godmother in Cinderella Jr. and Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar.
Another hobby of mine is cooking, especially baking. My passion for baking led me to start the Baking for Charity club at McDonogh School, where I organized bake sales throughout the school year for various organizations and causes. Additionally, I created a baking blog, Sophia’s Sweets on Medium, where I post my favorite recipes, baking techniques, and stories from my baking experiences. My blog allows me to connect my passion for baking with my other passion for writing.
I am excited to continue exploring the intersection of writing and food by writing and leading the Cornell chapter of Spoon University.
