You Can Actually Sweat Less When You Work Out, Here’s How

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at JMU chapter.

I’m not ashamed to admit it. When I work out, I end up dripping in sweat. Let me clarify: it’s not in like a sexy way… it’s in a disgusting, “don’t look her in the eyes” way. On the one hand, I feel like when I sweat, I feel like I had a better workout. But most of the time, I don’t want to be seen in public due to how much I sweat.

I decided to do a little research. I consulted Fitness Magazine and Shape since they seem to be the gurus of any and all things sweat-related. Is it possible to sweat less when working out? And how? Is there a way to not look like a drowned rat post-treadmill or am I sentenced to a life of pit stains?

However, folks, keep in mind that sweating is a normal process and nothing to be ever truly be embarrassed of. It’s the body’s natural way of cooling down. Some people just sweat more than others. Regardless, check out these tips to keep your sweating to a comfortable level.

1. Get yourself a reliable antiperspirant

Though this may start with a no-brainer, for many people, it’s not. While regular deodorant helps with that foul odor, it doesn’t really do much for the moisture that tends to come along with it. I would suggest slickin’ some on before bed. Your cool skin will soak up any and all moisture overnight.

2. Dry shampoo is your friend

It would be a little weird to take a stick of deodorant to your scalp. Thankfully, there’s dry shampoo for that. It will absorb excess moisture on your head when you’re workin’ on your fitness.

3. Invest in higher-quality workout gear

High-tech synthetic fabric will help keep away sweat. This will allow more air to get to your body and help you to maintain a cooler temperature. Might I suggest Under Armour and Nike workout gear. They know what they’re doing. If you buy cheap workout gear, you can expect unmanageable sweat.

4. Drink lots of cold water

Drinking cold water will help your body stay cool–and if your body is cool, you’ll sweat less. It’s like freakin’ magic.

5. Exercise when it’s cooler

With summer around the corner, it’s about to get hot in hurr. Try and workout early in the morning or in the early evening instead of the peak, hot hours. If you’re working out at home, grab a fan and point it at yourself while you’re working out for a little added coolness.

6. Pack some baby wipes

Ain’t no shame in wiping off the excess sweat that comes from working out. Throw some in your gym bag and freshen up during your workout.

If you’re feeling hungry, eat one of these bad boys before your workout.
