14 Thanksgiving Struggles Only Picky Eaters Understand

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at U Mich chapter.

Thanksgiving is a holiday almost everyone looks forward to for one main reason: food. Believe it or not, there are actually people in this world who can’t stand the feast. It’s not easy watching everyone at the table devour anything they see while you just sit there and pretend like you’re fine. This is how all those picky eaters barely survive Thanksgiving.

1. Everyone’s talking about how excited they are to stuff their faces with all of the “amazing” food and you’re just dreading sitting through the meal.

The second you sit down you know it’s going to be a long night.

2. The food is brought out and you start to panic.

You scan the table full of dishes trying to find something that looks a little bit appealing.

3. Because you realize once again you won’t be eating a thing.

There’s nothing plain, nothing you can pick apart and absolutely nothing you can even imagine eating.

4. Then your relatives start forcing you to try the turkey because they simply can’t believe you don’t like it.

Why does no one understand?? You can’t make yourself like something.

5. And you have no choice but to try it to get them to shut up.

Just have to take one bite to please them. You can do it.

6. Even though you taste it every year and you KNOW you don’t like it.

How does your family not remember?? They did this last year too. And the year before. And the one before that.

7. When your 7-year-old cousin is a more adventurous eater than you.

You know you’re being hard-core judged but just because you eat worse than a child doesn’t mean you’re immature. You can’t help it.

8. So you end up putting food on your plate and just moving it around.

Maybe your family will all think you’re eating if it looks like the food on your plate has been touched. No one is actually paying attention if you’re putting in your mouth right?

9. Then your uncle keeps asking WHY you don’t like the mashed potatoes.

Literally how many times must you go over this? YOU JUST DON’T LIKE IT!! Not that hard to understand.

10. And your grandma insists on you trying her stuffing, so you start to feel a little guilty.

It would just make her so happy if you tried it.

11. You try to pretend you like it but it’s just too hard to hide your “disgust” face.

Ugh, you genuinely wanted to like it but you just can’t.

12. And you get crazy looks for not touching the pumpkin pie.

Ok everyone can relax please. They should be happy, it just means more for them.

13. Then you have to have to watch everyone else go into food comas while you’re still starving.

Everyone’s too full to even stand up while you’re trying to deal with your completely empty stomach.

14. But nothing beats that feeling of relief when dinner is over and you can have your OWN feast with food you’ll actually eat.

Congrats picky eater, you made it through another Thanksgiving!!! Maybe next year you’ll actually like some of the food and it won’t be such a struggle to survive the meal.
