Why You Should Try Crêpes Etc.

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Wash U chapter.

Do you like crepes? Do you like giant marshmallows and Nutella? Of course you do. Lucky for those of us in St. Louis, Crêpes Etc. has both (and more). Located in the Central West End, this small eatery is perfect for a Saturday morning brunch followed by a stroll through the store-lined streets nearby, or maybe a walk through Forest Park.

Much like at other popular breakfast and brunch spots Winslow’s and Kayaks, customers at Crêpes Etc. form a line and order at the counter, seating themselves afterward at any of the available tables. Each receives a buzzer and once it lights up, indicating that the food is ready, the customer picks up a delicious and aromatic brunch at a nearby window.  When I went, our drinks (flavored lattés, anyone?) were ready almost immediately, and the food only took about 7-10 minutes – perfect for any time-crunched college student.

Crêpes Etc.’s slogan should be “Leave No Crumb Behind” because my plate was completely bare (as in maybe licked clean) at the end of my meal. I would highly recommend the Malted Waffle: it’s topped with sweet cream and fresh berries. This waffle was not only delicious, but highly satisfying and boasting some prime photogenic qualities (gotta create the perfect Insta, am I right?).

Like it’s namesake, Crêpes Etc. has all of the crepes: sweet or savory, and light or filling. The food my friends and I ordered spanned the spectrum of crepes and other brunch favorites: an Apple Crepe, a Malted Waffle, a Raspberry Crepe, and an Egg White Omelet with home fries. In addition to brunch, Crêpes Etc. also offers soups, salads, and sandwiches. You can find the entire mouth-watering menu here.

Fun Facts

Have you ever tried Scape? Just a couple weekends ago, I originally set out to try Scape when I ended up at Crêpes Etc., which was located right next door. While I was disappointed upon discovering that Scape was closed, I was relieved when I realized that a) Crêpes Etc. is Scape’s “sister restaurant” so a couple of the same dishes are offered, and b) the restaurant accepts Bear Bucks! Perfect day: grab something wonderful to eat at Crêpes Etc and then catch a movie at the nearby theater all in one afternoon. It’s definitely worth the trip.
