Cinco de Mayo this year falls on Sunday, May 5. Historically, the holiday commemorates Mexico’s battle victory over France in 1862. However, it’s not as celebrated in Mexico as Mexican Independence Day on September 16. In fact, it’s not celebrated in Mexico much except the town where the battle took place, Puebla. In the United States, Cinco de Mayo is complicated. But if you do plan on celebrating while learning the history and culture, here are some food deals for Cinco De Mayo to look out for.
Moe’s Southwest Grill
Moe’s Southwest Grill is offering $5.55 Burritos and Bowls on May 5. The first 30 people who visit the restaurant will get a free shirt. Here’s what you need to know. The $5.55 deal is for reward members only. If you’re not a member, download the Moe’s app and sign up before the date. It’s valid at these participating locations. Additional charges apply for premium proteins, extras, and add-ons.
Stone Cold Creamery
Stone Cold is bringing back an iconic treat for one week. Starting April 30, Cold Creamery is selling its spin of the discontinued Choco Taco. The Waffle Ice Cream Taco — yes, that’s what they named it — has sweet ice cream wrapped in a waffle-cone taco shell coated with chocolate on top and sprinkled with peanuts. It’s available nationwide, but the offer is only here until Cinco de Mayo. So plan accordingly while supplies last, or else the Choco Taco lovers get it first.
Chuy’s
Chuy’s Tex-Mex is going all out for Cinco De Mayo. The house margaritas start at $6, and you can add a tequila floater for an extra dollar. This offer only works for lime, strawberry or swirl flavors with ice or frozen. For something to nibble on, Chuy’s $5 chips and dip comes with Queso, Queso Compuesto, Lil’ Chuy Gooey or its Boom-Boom Pow. Find time on Sunday to dine in on this deal.
California Pizza Kitchen
First, CPK is offering an all-day happy hour on May 5. I don’t know much about drinking, but that sounds like a great night already. Next, it’s offering deals and special menus starting at $5. Some include the white corn guac with chips ($5) and pizza + beer combo for $9.
Kona Grill
On May 5, Kona Grill is serving margaritas and tacos all day. Choose from five different flavors to enjoy on the rocks or frozen for $5. If you’re feeling hungry, try some shrimp tacos for another $5.
