WUSTL Dining x Spoon Present: BD Game Night!

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Wash U chapter.

Running a bit too low on meal points for a three course Ibby’s Dinner, but still looking for a high quality meal? Yearning for a quick study break with friends amongst the monotonous mid semester slump? Well, look no further – this Wednesday, November 9th at Bears Den, WUSTL Dining will be hosting their biggest event of Fall 2022: Game Night at BD! At Game Night, students can enjoy as much food as they care to eat for only 20 meal points and take part in fun and games after they eat. If you fill out the crossword puzzle on our @spoon_washu instagram post attached below and send us a screenshot of your answer, you’ll even have the chance to win a free prize! Last week, I had the opportunity to interview Claire Conroy, the Special Events Coordinator for WUSTL Dining Services, and got some more inside scoop on what to expect.

Tell me a bit about what to expect at this event!

Game Night is our biggest event of Fall 2022! For just 20 meal points, you can enjoy an all you care to eat dinner, featuring dishes including Thai Spicy Fried Chicken, Chickpea Samosa Kabobs, Hot Potato Latkes, and Candy Land inspired treats. There will be games in Risa Commons including a Cornhole tournament, Jumbo Jenga, Connect 4, Frisbee Tic Tac Toe, board games, and more! Hang out with friends, eat delicious food, enter to win prizes, and listen to a great playlist curated by WashU students!

What sparked the idea for a game night at BD?

With the COVID-19 pandemic, a lot of us in the Dining department pulled out old board games we hadn’t played in a while. We really appreciated how board games got their moment in the spotlight again and wanted to bring them to WashU Dining! Also, what’s a game night without snacks?! Our chefs got creative with the menu, tying in some classic games, newer games, and of course- outdoor yard games like Cornhole.

What events have you recently put on like this in the past?

Street Food was our most recent big event in April 2022 and the first one since the pandemic. Students can expect a big event each semester! We have an exciting theme planned for Spring 2023…

Which past events have been most successful and why?

Street Food Festival was a huge success last April. We loved seeing so many students come out and try street food inspired by countries from around the globe! Also, our Moonlight Breakfasts are always a hit. Stay tuned for Moonlight Breakfast on Wednesday, December 14th from 9-11pm in BD and The Village. We recommend grabbing some friends and getting in line early!

What is your goal for this event?

Our main goal is student engagement, serving delicious food, and honestly, just to have fun! We encourage students to try new foods, play a board game or two, and enjoy a great night in Bears Den with your friends. Just a side note, BD will close at 2pm on Wednesday, November 9th so we can prepare for Game Night! We can’t wait to see everyone there.
