St. Patrick’s Day is coming, and you know what that means: green clothing, good food, an abundance of drinks and other festivities. While you may want to get involved in the holiday spirit, there’s not always time to visit Chicago and see the brilliant green river. But don’t worry – there’s lots to do locally.
Here are some restaurants or cafes in Evanston whose offerings are sure to make you feel lucky.
Celtic Knot Public House
If you’re looking for something traditional, check out Celtic Knot’s annual Hooley celebration. According to the pub, “Hooley” involves people coming together to celebrate community through eating, drinking, music, dancing and lively conversation. Hooley is a weekend-long celebration.
Prairie Moon
On St. Patrick’s Day, the all-American restaurant Prairie Moon swaps out its usual menu with specials dedicated to the holiday. Past menu include slow-roasted Irish beef stew, Gaelic steak in Glendalough Irish whiskey peppercorn cream sauce, and sticky toffee pudding, which is a rich Medjool date cake. Prairie Moon also serves themed drinks and cocktails, such as the Irish Mule and Irish Old Fashioned.
Cupitol Coffee & Eatery
If you still want to participate in St. Patrick’s Day festivities but don’t want to devote an entire meal to celebrating, Cupitol is offering $2 pistachio croissants all day. These croissants have green layers swirled throughout and are filled with a delicious pistachio cream. These croissants are offered for the entire month of March, so don’t miss out on this buttery and flaky treat.
Colectivo Coffee
When you stop by Colectivo this month, swap out a cup of coffee for the café’s new Minty Matcha Shake. It’s a festive drink served throughout the entirety of March in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day. This drink combines earthy matcha, house-made mint honey syrup and vanilla bean ice cream to create a blend that satisfies any sweet tooth. Colectivo will also offer themed desserts and pastries during March, like a Grasshopper Brownie, Shamrock Cookie, St. Patrick’s Krispie Treat and Matcha Croissant.
Bar Louie
Bar Louie is hosting two St. Patrick’s Day parties for those who want to eat, drink and have a good time. The first will be held on on March 14 and the second is on March 17. There will be music and drink specials that match the holiday spirit, like Bar Louie’s own green beer.
DB3 Donuts
Tucked away in North Evanston, DB3 Donuts is the perfect place to treat yourself during St. Patrick’s Day. Unfortunately, DB3 Donuts won’t be open on the actual holiday since it’s closed on Tuesdays, but fear not! The March special, a “Lucky Charms” donut, is available for the entire month. It comes complete with green icing and the iconic cereal sprinkled on top. You can also place a custom donut order.
Whether you’re Irish or not, St. Patrick’s Day is a fun-filled holiday you can celebrate in a variety of ways. Bake Irish soda bread, have an authentic meal or eat a themed dessert to get in the spirit. And of course, don’t forget to wear green.
