11 Unconventional Cookbooks You Didn’t Know You Needed

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Princeton chapter.

Looking for an out-of-this world gift? Know someone who’s culinary tastes are just a bit off? Ever wanted to cook like Jesus or Daenerys Targaryen? Well, look no further. Even if you don’t try out a single recipe, these cookbooks are sure to pique your interest and your sense of humor. With these cookbooks in your collection, you’ll be prepared for anything and everything, from the onset of the apocalypse, to time traveling to 14th century England. Listed in no particular order, these are the 11 cookbooks you didn’t know you needed (and probably still don’t).

1. Fifty Shades of ChickenFifty Shades of Chicken

Based on the popular novel Fifty Shades of Grey, read about a chicken’s journey throughout the kitchen at the hands of her master (chef). Includes hilarious, racy anecdotes between recipes. My dad got my mom this cookbook for their anniversary a few years back, and I basically stole it from them. Is that weird?

2. A Feast of Fire and Ice: The Official Game of Thrones Cookbook

A Feast of Ice and Fire

If you’ve ever wanted to dine like they do in Westeros, this is the cookbook for you. Just watch out for poison (or any other forms of murder)! Cook up some warm comfort food because, as everyone should know by this point, winter is coming!

3. The Astronaut’s Cookbook

The Astronaut's Cookbook

For a more scientific and out-of-this-world approach to food, take a look at this cookbook which describes the methods by which astronauts and NASA prepare and preserve food for space. For all those MAE majors (Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering for all you non-Princeton folks) and future astronauts out there.

4. High Times Cookbook

51Wq8Pp015L

Really should only be legal for adults 18 and older in Colorado and Washington. Technically. But an entertaining cookbook nonetheless.

5. The Axis of Evil Cookbook

The Axis of Evil Cookbook

Ever wanted to eat the food of a tyrannical, power-hungry (get it? hungry!) dictator? Well, with this cookbook, you can make dishes enjoyed by some of the most hated world leaders! But it’s okay because they’re wearing cute little hats on the cover, see?

6. Roald Dahl’s Revolting Recipes

2326947

A throwback to your childhood, this cookbook features recipes from some of Dahl’s most famous stories including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach.

7. The Forme of Cury41u-oF3rXIL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_SX385_SY500_CR,0,0,385,500_SH20_OU02_

Ever wanted to cook like people in the Middle Ages? This cookbook contains recipes from King Richard II’s personal chef. Unfortunately, all the recipes are written in Middle English.

8. The Post-Petroleum Survival Guide and Cookbook51oDSulaoZL._SX258_BO1,204,203,200_

For all you apocalypse enthusiasts out there,  make sure you’re prepared for the inevitable collapse of the world (and food as we know it) with this helpful cookbook. Also also includes information on first aid and how to rebuild civilization.

9. The “Why I’m Such a Fat Bastard” Cookbook61Sku9UHFBL

Perfect for those looking to pack on a bit more than the “Freshman Fifteen,” this cookbook doesn’t skimp on calories. By any means. Seriously. At all.

10. The Official Star Trek Cookbook51w+uQNwqoL

Apparently the Enterprise had a chef, and apparently these are the recipes he used to satiate the many species and creatures that were on board. I’m not a Star Trek person, so that’s about all I can say about that, but if you are a trekker and want to cook a meal for your favorite officer (or something like that…again, not a Star Trek person), this is the cookbook for you!

11. What Would Jesus Eat CookbookThe What Would Jesus Eat Cookbook

If you’re looking to lose a few pounds, why not go back  (way, way back) to the foods and recipes of a simpler, more Jesus-filled time? Remember, just ask yourself: WWJE?
